describe

This is a hotfix patch for Recorder - Standalone Fully Voiced Follower by potasticpanda. The purpose of this patch is only to fix bugs in the mod, not to add new content. Anything that looks like new content most likely already exists, but hasn't worked before. I tried to make as few "creative" decisions as possible, other than fixing issues that were already present in saves (such as adding a dialogue option to get a book that fell to the ground and was unreachable).

version warning

This is only for fix version 3.0! It's not clear what happens if you try to use an older version or a newer version.

How to install

Simply install these files on top of your existing Recorder files. The original Recorder mod must be installed first. The patch should not cover any files except the Recorder file. It will install a new plugin called Recorder Follower Patch.esp. The logger follower Base.esp must also be enabled.

For Classic Skyrim, you can use the Loose Files version or the BSA version. You don't have to extract or repackage anything.

If you are using Mod Organizer, make sure the patch is under the original Recorder mod in the left pane. You can also simply merge this mod into the main mod (in MO), but I don't recommend this.

For loading order (plugins tab in MO or NMM), make sure the logger follower Patch.esp comes after the following logger follower Base.esp (i.e. Patch should be loaded after Base). Additionally, any recorder compatibility patch must be BELOW Recorder Follower Patch.esp.

SPOILER warning

The patch notes below may contain some spoilers.

Major fixes

I added some dialogue options to fix errors that could occur on saves, but no longer occur if you start a new game (as they have been fixed by this patch). Not everyone wants to start a new game or reset the logger. I recycled some of the Recorder's rows as replies so that they were "immersive".

BUG #1: In the Track Lost Files task, sometimes a file might get stuck under something, so you can't click on it. This usually happens with a Skyrim installation of Open Cities Skyrim (OCS) or JK (if you didn't install the compatibility patch when starting the game), but it can also happen without them.

Correction #1:

Talk to the recorder.

Select "I need to ask you some questions."

Scroll down to the bottom and select "You know where the file is, right?"

Any files you haven't found yet will be reset to their original locations. This works for Open Cities Skyrim or JK's Skyrim if the corresponding compatibility patch is enabled.

BUG #2: In the Track the Lost File mission, you can pick up the third file (the one in Whiterun) before you should. If you pick it up too early, the cutscene won't trigger and you won't be able to progress.

Correction #2:

Since it's a quest item, it should still be in your inventory.

Head to the center of the Whiterun market area.

Talk to the recorder.

Select "I need to ask you some questions."

Scroll down to the bottom and select "Oh, I've found this file!"

A cutscene will trigger.

BUG #3: After completing the Track the Lost Files mission, Logger never brings her files back. Using the patch, she'll get the last file after it's found. If you've made it past this point, then you'll have to use this special dialogue option.

Correction #3:

Talk to the recorder.

Select "I need to ask you some questions."

Scroll down to the bottom and select "Do you want your files?"

BUG #4: During the Tracking the Lost Files mission, the second cutscene does not play properly. Wolf is supposed to chase the logger, but a configuration error prevents it from happening.

Fix #4: After fixing the original cutscene, it was a little weird. The wolves are supposed to chase the logger, but they reach their destination before the logger and they end up together. I changed it so that the wolf ran to where the logger originally stood. It still looks a little funny.

BUG #5: Af …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
