Light water overhaul
The Cathedral concept is a complete visual overhaul of Skyrim. It's designed to be simple, consisting mostly of retextures and improved models, so you can use it as a base without worrying about broad compatibility. This mod page is for water in the cathedral concept.
This is a minimalist aquatic overhaul, featuring a waterside restoration for the first time without interfering with the weather module.
No issues with lod tiling or mod incompatibility.
Fixed waterside bugs by setting water fog and reflections to start from the waterline instead of incorrectly. This is targeting the source of the problem, rather than changing their fog settings by adjusting fog weather, which only works for occasional weather, and not even for all water models (even if it did work, it still broke the horizon gap fix implemented by Obsidian weather and Aequenoctium weather).
Rivers look more realistic, in part because coasts and banks now have calmer and more transparent water, rather than the previously high mirror surfaces and large apparent waves that ran through them at unnatural angles.
Added water sounds to certain water sources inspired by RW2.
There are five versions to choose from, with varying degrees of glacial flour composed of tectonic silicate minerals suited to Skyrim's geography.
Designed specifically for Obsidian Weather, although compatible with any weather model
BC7 compression results in negligible compression artifacts. This does not increase memory usage, but will greatly improve quality due to the nature of the texture.
compatibility
Simple design allows for great compatibility. Edit textures and watercolors only.
Compatible with iNeed (appropriate flags added for inherent compatibility, just override with LWO)
Compatible with Real Water 2 (if you wish to retain the functionality of RW2, just override it with LWO)
Compatible with audio overhaul
cathedral modification
When it comes to modding, there are two main philosophies, Parlor and Cathedral, originally coined by former modifier Wrye.
In the living room view, we view the mod as a private piece of art displayed in the modder's living room. We invite others to appreciate our work. We receive immediate praise and approval that encourages us to further our work.
In Cathedral Concept we think about change working together. We share our work with each other to promote further pattern development, keep the community alive, and contribute to the construction of monumental cathedral-like scales. Individually, our contribution may be small and not worth doing for ourselves, but each person contributes something and we build something bigger and more valuable than we could ever do on our own.

Lightweight Water Overhaul
The Cathedral Concept is a comprehensive visual overhaul for Skyrim. It is simply designed, consisting mostly of retextures and improved models, so that you can use it as a foundation without having to worry extensively about compatibility. This mod page is for the water found in The Cathedral Concept.
This is a minimalist water overhaul with the first-ever water-edge fix that doesn't interfere with weather mods.
No issues with lod tiling or mod incompatibilities.
The water-edge bug has been fixed by setting water fog and reflections to start at the water line instead of mistakenly before. This targets the root of the problem as opposed to breaking weather mods by adjusting their fog settings which only works for the occasional weather and not even for all water mods (and even when it did work, it still broke the horizon seam fix implemented by Obsidian Weathers and Aequenoctium Weathers).
Rivers appear much more realistic, in part because the shores and riverbanks now have calmer and …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
