About this mod Machine translation
Give the NPC or object any name you want.
This mod and all its requirements are alpha/beta - don't use it on anyone/anyone or save what you can't loose
Require
SKSE64
SkyUI
limit
If you remove the mod, NPC names will be restored. They are not permanent, so it needs to be active to reapply them on a game load
Object names are usually restored as well, but there are exceptions
Rename a non-unique NPC, basically any randomly generated NPC, every NPC of that type can be renamed
Sometimes it is necessary to save and reload the game to visually update the name
If an NPC has had its naming changed by using a quest alias, it is permanent and cannot be edited by this mod.
An NPC with a changed name in one save can also have it in another save if loaded during the same session. This just uses a cached renamed version of the game to speed up loading. If it's distracting, restart Skyrim and load the game again.
These are a lot of game limitations even mentioned on the CreationKit wiki, and are unlikely to be fixed. At least not me.
How to use
Approach an NPC/Object until the current name is displayed
Open menu
Enter new name
Finish
For NPCs or objects that have been registered with a new name, the option to delete it will also appear in the menu
Updated from 0.10.0 -> 0.20.0
Since the registry has been extended to support NPCs and objects and more NPCs, there are two things to note. First, since it's a new system, all names assigned by 0.10.0 will be gone. Secondly, a "clean" installation is required. This means disabling the mod, disabling it, then installing the new version.
To use the hotkey option you need SkyUILib, otherwise the popup won't show up. If you use the converted Oldrim mod, you probably already have it, as many already bundle it.

UPDATING FROM 0.10.0 -> 0.20.0
Due to expanding the registry to support both NPCs and objects plus a lot more of them there are two things to keep in mind. First, since it's a new system all the names assigned by 0.10.0 will be gone. Second a "clean" install is required. This means disabling the mod, save with it disabled and then install the new version.
To use the hotkey option you need SkyUILib or the popup won't show. You may already have it if you're using converted Oldrim mods since many have it bundled.
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
