For an idea I had on a whim, claiming Valtheim's abilities was surprisingly well-accepted. People like their actions to have a lasting, positive impact on the world, and they also like not to be blackmailed by bandits who don't realize their inferiority. It's nice to know that these bandits aren't a problem for you or anyone else, and you only have to deal with them once instead of having to find new houseguests every two weeks.
I've done various types of mods since then, as my interests basically change randomly, but if people were talking about one of my mods, the idea of a feature to declare locations would often be thrown around in more and more parts of Skyrim. Only recently have I been able to build a system that scales easily from one area to another, allowing you to claim more and more areas as your character defeats the enemies there, thus stabilizing one Skyrim at a time.
Lawbringer is a mod that allows you to claim multiple bandit outposts for the faction you support, and the framework can be expanded to let you claim any location for any faction you like. Once you clear the supported area, you'll be able to find nearby banners and use them to capture the fortress. After that, waiting or leaving the fortress will clear it and cause it to be taken over by the faction you requested protection from. Lawbringer supports Radiant Exclusions by default, so as long as you have the Radiant Exclusions plugin, there's no chance it will let you clear a boss that no longer exists.
Currently, five regions have added support for Guards, Imperial Soldiers, or Stormcloaks. These are:
The ruins of Bthalft
Forsus Watchtower
nirheim
pine bridge
Rift Valley Watchtower
Tactics Valtheim and Halted Stream Mine already use customized versions of the Lawbringer system, and my upcoming Silent Moons Camp mod will also use it. I'm planning on how to handle Forsworn and Reach in general, and once that's over I should be able to support each Forsworn faction. Once I add support for locations that cross Hold Hold boundaries, mountain passes like Brittleshin Pass will also be on my list.
Adding basic Lawbringer support to a new region now takes about 10 minutes. Usually it's just a matter of dragging and dropping correctly and then my system will work fine. I will be writing a formal guide on how anyone who has used CK before can add basic support for Lawbringer to new areas in the coming days. Until then, please feel free to contact me and I will be happy to discuss how to use the framework.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
