- -warn - -
Before you dive into this mod for the first time, I'll give you a fair warning: I'm still new to using the Creation Kit, and this is only the second mod I've created with it.
---What do you get with this Mod---
With that caveat, this mod replaces the "Roughspun Tunic" and "Footwraps" you get in the vanilla start of the game, when you start as The Prisoner, with a set of (very rare) "Tavern Clothes" and a pair of front lace-up boots that look to go well with them.
---Why---
I discussed creating this mod with myself. I did it seriously. Tavern clothing is extremely rare and has become a collector's item in TESV. However, I happened to be looking at the Skyrim version of Fudge Muppet's "Lusty Argonian Maid" and realized that it would make more sense for a character to start by already having his own tavern outfit; rather than, say, the character having to go out of his way to acquire them. So, I went ahead and made this mod thinking it would be for people who plan on playing a specific version, or something like that.
- -How to install - -
MO2:
Click "Download with Manager" and install and activate as usual.
vortex:
Click "Download with Manager" and install as usual, overwriting when prompted? Not sure as I don't use Vortex.
NMM:
Click "Download with Manager" and install as usual, overwriting when prompted? Not sure as I don't use NMM.
manual:
Manually download, unzip, place the ESP file into the "Data" folder of the Skyrim Special Edition installation location, and... activate in-game? Not sure as I have little experience installing mods manually...
---Load order---
I honestly can't offer any real advice on how to place this in your load order. Each Skyrim loadout order is unique and highly tailored, and honestly only you, the player, know where to best fit your mods to get the effect you want. If you have any doubts, let LOOT - Load Order Optimizer Tool do its job (that's what I do).
- -compatibility - -
This mod should be compatible with anything that doesn't replace the starting cloth you get at the beginning of the game (Rough Coat and Footmuffs).
This mod is fully compatible with Khajiits and Argonians. (Unless of course you have a mod, otherwise...)
Since this mod only modifies the prisoner costume you get at the start of the game, and only contains vanilla assets, it will persist any reshape and/or retexture mods you have installed.
This mod is not compatible with Better Starting Clothes as they do similar things.
This mod is not compatible with Cyrodiil's Better Starting Clothes - Fugivite as they do similar things.
Not compatible with NMM? This is an ESP file tagged ESL, I'm not too familiar with NMM to know if it supports Light Masters Files.
--- ---question
This mod has not been tested with alternate startup modules. Since I don't use alternate launch modes myself, I can't attest to how this mod interacts with them.
This may conflict with other mods that modify the sequence introduced by Helgen.
- -Notes - -
This mod was created in SSE Creation Kit with SSE CreationKit Fixes.
This mod is an ESP which is tagged ESL using xEdit.
I think this is a bit of a cheat mode; not because the items in this mod are too powdery, but because the tavern outfit is a very rare outfit that can only be found on a handful of NPCs, and only in a handful of places in the game.
Check out Fudge Muppet on Youtube or check them out on social media. They get good Elder Scrolls content, which they add regularly.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
