About this mod Machine translation

This mod adds quests to the game, fleshes out the lore behind the Konahrik Mask and its namesake Dragon Priest, and allows you to upgrade the mask with better enchantments. That's right, you can take on the mighty Konarik himself.

Non-SE version available here:

Konarik, the Dragon Priest's Champion, never dies. Although he was knocked down in battle during the Dragon War, his soul was preserved in the Soul Gem and was divided into powerful dragons for protection. Now that the dragon has risen again, Konarik's return may be coming soon. It's up to you to stop this great evil from rearing its ugly head again.

introduce

For me, Konahrik's Mask is disappointing in two ways. First of all, the charm it has isn't all that interesting, especially considering the amount of work you have to put in to actually get the mask. The second is that it has no story, other than some dead guy trying to get it for himself. There's no sign of the Konahrik Dragon Priests, no explanation as to why it's locked, it's just sort of there. This model attempts to address these grievances.

Overview

This is a quest mod designed to add some lore to the unique mask Konahrik and improve its charm to some extent. To begin this quest, go to the Labyrinthian sanctuary of Bromjunaar and read the new bloody records under the skeleton lying there (not the letters of the hired thugs; that's a whole new note). From there, you'll be directed to the dead man's associate, who will ask you to take him from Bromjunaar to the Konahrik Mask. Then, under his guidance, you'll take on powerful Keeper Dragons to reassemble Konahrik's Soul Gem and take him out. Once you defeat the eponymous priest, you'll receive an improved version of the Konahrik Mask that's even more powerful than the original.

mask

The upgraded mask has some key differences from the original. The Fire Cloak and healing ability now have a storm on top of it to better distribute any immediate threats. The rare Dragon Priest summoning effect has been replaced by the devastating Meteor Storm summoning. Since Storm Call can only be used outdoors, the chance of rare effects is doubled to make up for this. On top of that, the mask now also has a passive enchantment effect; the lower your health, the more damage your weapons do. You gain 10% additional damage for every 10% health lost, and an additional 50% damage when you drop below half health.

Require

Just Skyrim. I've specifically not included any DLC assets so anyone who owns the game can enjoy this mod.

BUGS

I've only noticed one thing in my few tests so far, and that's that when you pick up the newer version of the mask from Konahrik's corpse, the mission may not progress. It only happened to me once, but if it happens again, just reload an early save before you defeat him.

If you find any other bugs, please report them to me in the comments and I'll fix them as soon as possible.

Oh, and a fairly common Creation Kit bug, custom NPCs don't initiate any dialogue when you first try to talk to them. If you try to talk to Sirus and he refuses to say anything to you, save your game while standing in front of him, then reload the save, which will reveal the dialogue line.

frequently asked questions

Is the mission adequately voiced?

Yes, just me. Thankfully, there's only one NPC you can talk to.

I already have the Konahrik Mask, can I still start the quest?

Yes, you can start the mission whether you have a mask or not. After you talk to Sirus for the first time, he will ask you to bring him the mask; if you already have it, you can give it to him, if you don't have it, then he will tell you to get it.

What if I want the original version of the mask back?

Once you're done, you can switch back and forth between the old and new Konahrik masks on your tanning rack. Note that this will reset any forging bonuses you gave, but the option is still there if you need it. If you're not sure which version of the mask you have, check the value; newer ones are worth more …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
