Lava pillars have been fixed

For some reason the SSE version doesn't convert this mesh from LE to SSE well.

Now it looks a lot better as I play around with it!

I used the Lava Column mesh in my Room mod and immediately noticed that it didn't look like what I remembered from Skyrim Legendary Edition. In nifSkope the mesh looks correct, I can't figure out why it looks weird in game. I looked into grids and asked around with nifSkope and NifOptimizer (which didn't help) but couldn't find a solution - so I started fiddling around.

I can't tell you the exact steps to improve this mesh. I really just fiddled with the settings until I found something that worked. The image above shows a setting that does change the mesh in nifskope to look like what I see in the game. Enable testing checkbox above the alpha testing feature. I think ended up changing the value there to get the look.

If you look closely at the image in Aetherium Forge's UESP page, you can see that it looks correct in LE skyrim, the image is from 2012-13. The image from my room mod looks a little different because I'm using the lower part of the pillar instead of the visible one from Aetherium Forge, which is more like the middle part of the pillar.

The grid has two layers. There should be some darker color on the inside and there should be clear "holes" on the outside to allow the inner layer to be seen. I think the outer Alpha needs to be changed.

If you have any questions or if anyone has a better solution, please let me know in the comments.

Lava Column Corrected

The SSE version for some reason did not convert this mesh from LE to SSE very well.

Now with my fiddling it looks much better!

I used the Lava Column mesh in my Room mod and noticed right away that it didn't look at all like I remembered it from the Skyrim Legendary Edition. InnifSkope the mesh looks correct and I could not figure out why in game it looked so odd. I researched the meshes and nifSkope and NifOptimizer (didn't help for this) asked around a bit but couldn't find solution - so I started fiddling.

I cannot tell you the exact steps taken to improve this mesh. I literally just fiddled with settings till I found what worked. Images above show one setting that did change the mesh in nifskope to look like what I was seeing in game. The Enable Testing checkbox above the Alpha Test Function. I think in ended up changing the values there to get the look.

If you look closely at the image from UESP page for the Aetherium Forge you can see that it looks correct in LE skyrim that image is from 2012-13. Image from my room mod looks a bit different because I am using a lower portion of the column than what is visible at the Aetherium Forge, it's more the middle of the column.

There are two layers to the mesh. The inner has somewhat darker colors and the outside is supposed to have the transparent 'holes' in order to see the inner layer. The Alpha on that outer layer I think is what needed the changes.

Any questions or if someone has better solution let me know in comments.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
