Night Watchman - "In a few hours I can crawl under some fur..." ...and now they can!
Have you heard this line from the guards working the night..."Just a few more hours and I can crawl under some fur..."
Well now they can actually...
This is a simple example mod with a grid and script that enables bed fur when the bed is activated and used.
Includes two grids...
BedFurCovers.nif
- is a static cowhide with a texture that matches the guard bed. This doesn't work with the Guard's single beds - they are too small. Take a look at the image of the cowhide normal texture applied to the large double bed in my Room mod.
BedFurCovers02.nif
-Actually a werewolf fur. The texture changes to the fur on the guard's bed. That texture doesn't have the correct alphas, while the werewolf's texture does show shaggy fur. I think the effect looks good because it looks like layers of fur.
The shape of these grids is the main reason for using them. They have bulges and curves that allow them to be laid on the bed. It's not perfect, so if you want to improve them, please do!
ScriptJEB_BedCoversScript.psc
- Attaching the bed cover as a property to the bed reference will enable the cover when the bed is activated. When the bed is no longer in use, the cover is disabled.
- Cover needs to be marked as initially disabled.
- For a single bed, the cover needs to fill in the LeftCover attribute. The left side is assigned to "Side 0" (the right side is "Side 1") Check the bed's basic records to determine which side it is using. Start on the left and if it doesn't work, try it.
- For double beds, fill the left and right covers accordingly. If you need to switch, do so.

Well now they actually can...
This is a simple example mod with mesh and script to allow bed furs to be enabled when the bed is activated and in-use.
There are two meshes included...
BedFurCovers.nif
- is a Static cow hide with texture to match guards bed. This did not work for the guard's single beds - they are too small. See images the cow hide with it's normal texture worked well for the big double bed in my Room mod.
BedFurCovers02.nif
- is actually a Werewolf Pelt. The texture is changed to the pelt on the guard's bed. That texture doesn't have the correct alphas whereas the werewolf texture does and shows a hairy pelt. The effect I think looks ok as it looks like layers of furs.
The shape of those meshes is the main reason to use them. They have bulge and curve to go over a body lying in bed. It is not perfect so if you want to improve on them please do!
The script JEB_BedCoversScript.psc
- Attached to the bed reference with the cover filled as a property, will enable the cover when the bed is activated. When the bed is no longer in-use the cover is disabled.
- the covers need to be marked as Initially Disabled.
- For single beds the cover needs to fill the LeftCover property. Left is assigned to 'Side 0' (Right is 'Side 1') Check the bed's base record to make sure which side it is using. Start with left and if it doesn't work try right.
- For Double beds fill the Left and Right covers accordingly. If it needs to be switched, do so.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
