About this mod Machine translation
What?
A small patch to display Skyrim's native weather widget based on Frostfall conditions.
How about it?
design concept
Adds a spacer between Frostfall's API and Skyrim's weather HUD.
in game
It should "just work". As soon as the frost begins, the icon should appear and transition seamlessly.
The status is:
Freeze = bright white snowflakes = frost fall freezes and freezes to death exposure levels
Cold = Snow = Frost Cold temperatures without freezing or freezing to death exposure levels
Neutral=no icon=frost neutral temperature
Warmth = Sun = Frost Warmth Temperature
Fire = bright sunshine = frost near heat source
Loading order
Load anywhere, no dependencies
compatibility
Should work without breaking the local HUD in any way.
Why?
Launched in 2017, Skyrim Creation Club (CC) brings new features to the base game to support its new offerings. One of the most obvious early changes is the addition of a temperature icon to the HUD. At least in my opinion, these were part of the Survival Mode product that was given away when CC was released, but the assets were actually in the base game files (this was one of the many annoying, SKSE-breaking updates Bethesda did).
Armed with this knowledge, and plans to build a larger Frostfall widget mod, I set out to integrate the two. The larger widget mod part fails (for now), but the integration with the native HUD works just fine.
when?
The project was originally developed in May 2020.

test! I've done some, but I'm one of many of you. Please test and log any bugs you find.

What?
A small patch to display Skyrim native weather widgets based on Frostfall conditions.
How?
Design philosophy
Provide a shim between Frostfall’s API and Skyrim’s weather HUD.
In Game
It should “just work.” As long as Frostfall is started, the icons should seamlessly appear and transition.
The states are:
Freezing = Bright white snowflake = Frostfall Freezing and Freezing to Death exposure levels
Cold = Snowflake = Frostfall Cold temperature and not Freezing or Freezing to Death exposure levels
Neutral = No icon = Frostfall Neutral temperature
Warm = Sun = Frostfall Warm temperature
Fire = Bright sun = Near a Frostfall heat source
Load Order
Load anywhere, no dependencies
Compatibility
Should work with anything that doesn’t break the native HUD.
Why?
The launch of Skyrim Creation Club (CC) in 2017 brought new features to the base game in order to support it’s new offerings. One of the most visible early changes was the addition of temperature icons to the HUD. While it appeared, to me at least, that these were a component of the Survival Mode product given away at the start of the CC, the assets are actually in the base game files (part of one of those many annoying, SKSE-breaking updates Bethesda did).
With that knowledge and a plan to build a larger Frostfall widget mod, I set about integrating the two. The larger widget mod part fell through (for now), but the integration with the native HUD worked perfectly.

This project was originally developed in May 2020.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
