Orbital Ion Cannon
Death strikes from above in an unconventional way!
Requested by Steam user Blast Lord.
Version 1.0.0: Initial release of SE
The first two animations above are from SE, all other animations are from Classic.

How to use
When you load the game after installing the mod, you will automatically get 2 destruction spells and a lesser power.
Power: Ion Cannon Explosion
After approximately 3 seconds, the area below the reticle will be bombarded with the Ion Cannon.
Spell: Ion Cannon Rune
Creates a giant, ugly purple rune on the ground. It reacts like a normal rune, except it explodes and summons an Ion Cannon to explode after about a second.
Spell: Ion Cannon Ranged Target
Place it like a rune. Escape and cast again to summon an ion cannon to hit the target location.
notes
There is a short delay for the ion cannon to recharge after each ion beam detonation. Only one target can be targeted at a time, so if you place a rune, turn it off, activate a ranged target, and use Power, it will still only explode once. Doing this is also a great way to distort your animation.
compatibility
Should be quite common. Not shared with any other assets. If your script engine has been compressed by another mod, the spell will not cast correctly.
troubleshooting
If the spell hangs during casting, i.e. the aiming beam is locked but the explosion never comes, cast it elsewhere. If it won't let you, press T and wait an hour for the spell object to reset.
If the Ion Cannon is completely damaged, or you accidentally removed the spell from your character in some way, type the following into the console:
Set vION_Reset to 1
Then quick save and quick load. This will reset all spell objects as well as control scripts/quests and add the spell back to your character if needed.
FAQ
Q: One of the development videos shows multiple beams of light simultaneously. Why only one at a time now?
Answer: Originally, this effect was achieved by dynamically creating and deleting objects. Unfortunately, some of these reference each other to the point where there's a danger that Skyrim will never clear them, so they'll forever clutter your save, causing bloat. To solve this problem, I made all objects reside permanently in an empty cell and now move them instead of creating and deleting them. Unfortunately, this means they can only exist in one place at a time now, so that's the limit.

Death strikes from above in a distinctly non-lore-friendly fashion!

How to Use
When you load the game after installing the mod, you will automatically gain 2 Destruction spells and a lesser Power.
Power: Ion Cannon Blast
The area under your crosshairs will be struck with an Ion Cannon blast after about 3 seconds.
Spell: Ion Cannon Rune
Create a giant, ugly, purple rune on the ground. It will react like normal runes, except instead of exploding, it will call down an Ion Cannon blast after about a second.
Spell: Ion Cannon Remote Target
Place it like a rune. Run away and cast it a second time to call an Ion Cannon strike down on the target's position.
Notes
After each beam blast there will be a short delay while the Ion Cannon recharges. Only one place can be targeted at a time, so if you place the rune, set it off, activate the remote target, and use the Power, you'll still only get one blast. Doing this is a good way to screw up the animation, too.
Compatibility
Should be pretty universal. Does not share assets with anything else. If your scripting engine has been hosed by anot …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
