Big thanks to Brodual for featuring my mod on my YouTube channel,
He explains every feature of this mod in detail.
You can follow him on Facebook or Twitter.
Thanks to novajam for making another explanatory video, and to Gruntlock for making a video that goes along with my mod.
Before installing this mod, make sure you have SkyUI 4.1 and SKSE 1.6.16 installed, you can try using lower versions, but I programmed the script using these versions.
I recommend you use the Mod Manager to install this mod, but if you want to install it manually, you can simply extract it into the skyrim/data folder.
After successful installation, wait about 20 seconds for the initialization message to appear and the MCM to announce the registration of the 2 mod configuration pages, then you are good to go.
The mod revolves around weapon and spell cache menus to help you customize your spell casting options. It's a bit weird to use them, but the limitations of Papyrus leave me with no other options, here's an example:
- To use this mod to activate certain spells or weapons and make them run, you must first equip them to your character, but powers are supported but shouts are not supported.
- Once you enter any Mod configuration page, these weapons or spells will be registered in their corresponding cache menu.
- The first spell or weapon in the cache menu will be the one your character is currently equipped with. Each cache menu is limited to 30 slots.
I did my best to program this program to be compatible with any other modules. I tested with the Revelations spell pack, Balanced Magic, and T3nd0s Skyrim Redone.
How to clear/reset/remove X option?
You can use the default key from the mod configuration page. Sorry, I forgot to put that information in the description when I first uploaded this mod.
Where should I put this module in the load order?
No specific location is required, but I like to put it after the SkyUI mod.
How do I uninstall this mod?
You can simply delete the BSA and ESP files and it should be safe enough. However, if you want to go the extra mile, you can stop the Smart Cast loop before uninstalling by checking the option in "Smart Cast – Configuration > Smart Spells Manager > Stop Smart Spell Loop" or by deleting all Smart Spells, running UnregisterForUpdate(). But I'm not sure if it's necessary, I used RegisterForSingleUpdate(time) instead of RegisterForUpdate(time).
Is it safe to uninstall this mod?
As safe as any other mod using scripts, you will have to use the following log messages:
Unable to open storage for class '<script>', missing file?
Warning: Unable to obtain the <script> type referenced by the save game. Objects of this type will not be loaded.
Warning: Type <script> not found in saved type table
Uninstalling this mod won't break the game, and if you don't have logging enabled you won't even notice the messages.
Why not support shouting?
Even though they use the exact same magical effects, the way shouts and spells are treated in the game are completely different. And there is no way to activate shouting via script. The only possible solution is to remake all the shouts into spells, but I'm not sure if it's worth it, it might create too many problems. If SKSE supports shoutouts in the future, they will be added to this mod.
Does the mod support focus spells?
Yes, but they cannot be controlled via script and they will have erratic behavior. If you create a smart spell using these types of spells, it may consume all your magic, you can add a rule to prevent this: "If your magic is greater than <percentage>", this way you will always store enough magic for other …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
