feature

Craft, ride and transform in first person

first person weapons

Reduce clipping

Brittle control (no inertia)

Headless float

I also disabled first person shadows. They may look very nice, especially if you're using lighting mods, but you'll soon find that you don't have a first-person mind.

If you want to enable first-person shadows, set the following value to 1: bFirstPersonShadows

Known issues

Certain animations may cause camera damage if viewed in first person (animated Eating Redux SE editor, keep it clean - bath mode).

The camera requires pressing the F key (defaults to "toggle 3rd person/1st person") to mount/dragon mount, although this does not work while seated. (Going to bed can be interrupted if switching POV)

While riding, the camera can open a tab menu at will. (rarely happens)

To resolve animation interruptions, use another object (seat, bed or other object) or enter another unit's method.

This mod is not compatible with HDT. Reports range from HDT not working at all, to first-person viewing being drastically degraded.

There are some cuts in first person shooting when mounting or dismounting.

FAQ

I like improving my camera's default settings, is there a reason to use your INI file?

Won't. The improved camera is a great standalone module and what I've done in this INI file is try to make it closer to the original experience to make it easier to use.

Do I need to update the improved camera every time Skyrim Special Edition and SKSE are updated?

Won't. The improved camera is compatible with multiple versions of SKSE and has been deprecated for compatibility with future versions. The improved camera is compatible even if you use an older version of Skyrim Special Edition.

My head is missing, give it back to me!

Find the setting starting with bEnableHead and set it to 1. I've disabled them to reduce clipping. You should only really notice this if you look down while running/sprinting or notice your head disappearing from the shadows. Unfortunately, shadows are now necessary to solve other problems.

Is this compatible with armor mods?

Yes, this is ready-to-use compatible with all armor mods.

Why does it look like I'm playing the game through found footage?

You have not downloaded my INI or set the settings starting with bEnableHeadBobPosition to 1. Download my INI or revert these values to 0. (Note: I recommend enabling bEnableHeadBobPositionHorse, HorseCombat, Dragon, DragonCombat, and Scripted to reduce clipping.)

Why does it feel like I'm playing frozen levels of an old video game?

You either didn't download my INI or you set bSmoothAnimationTransitions to 1. Download my INI or set this value to 0 to get rid of inertia.

I want to watch third person animation from first person perspective. Is this possible?

Yes, but this will cause you to lose the weapon from first person view. Set bUseThirdPersonArms and bUseThirdPersonArmsBow (instead of BowAim) to 1 to view animations from mods like Archery Gameplay Overhaul in first-person perspective.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
