Immersive factions and character outfits
Available for Skyrim Special Edition
ICFA has tweaked the gear for vanilla and Dawnguard characters to make your immersion more evident from a narrative, organizational and visual perspective. Factions will now feel more organized and cohesive: Clothes are used to make each faction's levels clearer (for example, the Thieves Guild no longer has "are there four guildmasters?"). While I think many of the NPCs' new outfits look better, it's the combination of a friendly attitude and an aesthetically conscious story.
Compatibility: This mod does not include new assets, scripts, face data, or mission changes, so it should be compatible with almost everything. The lower the load order, the more likely it is that none of the changes will be overwritten (although no changes may occur initially, so don't worry about changes higher in the load order) ICFA is fully compatible with all texture and mesh replacements for clothing and armor (my screenshots use Rustic Clothing, Frankly HD, and Silence Book textures.)
Installation: Simply install using Vortex or your preferred Mod Manager (or install manually). I'm 99% sure that this mod is safe during intermediate installs or uninstalls, but since you can never predict the effects of changing a mod mid-game, I may not be able to help you much if you choose to do this and run into issues.
Changes to NPCs include the following:
Thieves Guild
Mercer is now the only NPC wearing black Guildmaster armor (he is the Guild of the Guild, after all.) He also comes with a matching hood, emphasizing his suspiciousness.
Brynjolf, Vex and Delvin's equipment has been changed to sleeveless gray "Elite" Thieves Guild armor. Brynjolf will still use his "disguise" costume and Nightingale costume when necessary, and will equip and unequip as normal.
All other Thieves' Guild members now wear a brown set of Thieves' Guild armor, with two possible hood variations. This does not include guild allies who are not thieves, such as Vekel and Dirge.
Karliah still wears her unique armor, but her hood has been removed.
winterhold college
Mirabelle, the academy's mage wizard, now wears master robes instead of apprentice robes.
Now, three Master Lecturers wear Master's robes for their respective schools of magic.
Now, three expert coaches wear expert robes for their respective schools of magic.
Non-coach scholars like Nirya and Enthir have been standardized to wear Adept robes.
Brelyna now wears novice robes like Onmund and J’zargo.
The party ghosts of Savos Aren in The Staff of Magnus now wear college robes instead of regular hooded robes.
The wizards of the court now wear unique hooded adept robe suits. This change also applies to some other NPCs using the Court Wizard costume type.
Orthorn and the three corpses from the "Missing Apprentice" mission now wear apprentice robes.
Now, Caller and Falion are wearing black hooded robes.
Ancano was covered. The Estormo's hood has been removed.
dark brotherhood
Gabriella now wears a Shroud instead of a Shroud Robe to better suit her fighting style.
Since Penitus Oculatus agents are primarily covert during the Skyrim event, the universal agent will now wear a suit of Studded Imperial armor. Lieutenants (including Gaius) will be wearing full heavy Imperial armor. Commander Marlo will continue to wear the special Penitus Oculatus armor without a helmet (the helmet can still be found at the Penitus Oculatus Outpost in Dragon Bridge).
companion
Huntress Aela now wears wolf armor like the rest of the Circle. This does not affect her combat capabilities (if you want to fix Aela's light/heavy skills, I recommend installing an unofficial patch.) If you prefer her original ancient Norse armor, there is a patch available in the files section.
Skjor now wears gauntl …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
