Skyrim LE version:
describe
Often, in Skyrim, diseases are described solely by their mechanical effects. However, I (and others) also want to know what* the disease is doing to my character, and that's really not what the game says. If I were to make an LP of this game, I wouldn't know how to make my character react to it without looking up the disease on UESP or something like that.
A modder called Funsize_360 made a mod that adds descriptions to the vanilla game using Morrowind descriptions, however, the mod does remove the mechanical descriptions of diseases. This is still a question for me because I also want to see mechanical effects so I know how to react when racing.
As a result, I created this mod as a continuation of Funsize's mod. What this mod does is add descriptions to diseases in the vanilla game and official DLC. These descriptions retain information about the mechanical effects of the disease, but also have a "velvety" description. This is very beneficial if you want to really immerse yourself in the game (or if you're playing it) because you'll know how to deal with any ailments you get.
Sample disease description:
Fracture Fever: Fracture Fever is a mild common illness that affects the victim's strength and coordination. Symptoms include high body temperature and chronic fatigue. As a result, your stamina is reduced by 25 points while affected by the disease.
Ataxia: Ataxia is a mildly common disorder that affects the coordination of the victim. Symptoms include body pain and muscle stiffness. Therefore, picking locks and picking pockets is 25% more difficult while affected by disease.
Rattle: Rattle is a mild common ailment that affects the victim's willpower and dexterity. Symptoms include muscle spasms and listlessness. As a result, your stamina is restored by half while being affected by the disease.
Install
Install with your mod manager. This mod includes installers for NMM and Bash, so just follow the installers.
However, if for some specific reason you can't use mod managers (perhaps you're allergic to them), just copy the main file to your Skyrim SE Data folder (usually under <Steam Folder>/steamapps/common/Skyrim Special Edition/Data), along with the corresponding compatibility plugins for that folder.
Use LOOT to sort mods in load order.
uninstall
Simple. Just deactivate the mod.
If you don't have a mod manager, delete the disease description *.esp(s) from the Skyrim SE Data folder.
compatibility
Compatible with real-life needs and diseases (patch provided).
Incompatible with anything that alters vanilla/DLC diseases in any way.
Users should be aware that, although not required, fixes from unofficial patches have been moved into the mod.
integral
Funsize_360 - used to create the original disease description and allowed to improve his mods.
roots/Elenear - Provided me with the original mod on the STEP forums, which led me to making this.
perseid9 - Used for creating realistic needs and diseases, one of Skyrim's best need mods.
ElminsterAU, Sharlikran and Zilav are used to create and maintain TES5Edit, a very complete mod editor that everyone should use for Skyrim mods. Go check it out!
The entire STEP team, has been awesome and produced a very detailed noob friendly guide to enhancing Skyrim. Go check it out!
Finally, Bethesda Softworks was used to create such a modular and high-quality game, as well as providing the Creation Kit and providing the basis for most of the disease descriptions. Thank you!

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
