introduce

I want to use the helmet overlay in my next game, it gives so much immersion. Unfortunately, not all armor mods are supported, which always breaks immersion. Especially in the beginning, when you're changing your armor a lot. So I'm continuing to use what's available to support more of the armor mods I'm using.

I mostly reuse overlays or make small changes. I only made one overlay myself (the one with the wizard's hat, because it was simple XD). Sometimes they're not perfect. Feel free to improve it, send it to me or upload your own version. As far as I know, all resources are free.

If you like my model, please leave a like and check out my other MSDS models.

If you have Helmet Overlay - Improved First Person Experience not installed yet, make sure to check the comments section and make a small change to the folder structure so it will run properly (I can assure you it is working, if not, you didn't make the correct changes or the mod conflicts (I can't imagine any, but who knows).

Also don't forget to install my helmet coverage debug stuck fix.

You will only see helmet overlays in the Hud menu, they disappear in the dialog menu and inventory menu. For consistency, I recommend using:

-Show player in menu If you open any inventory you will see the player so it is consistent the helmet overlay disappears.

  • Improved alternate dialogue camera If you open a dialogue, the camera will switch to third person. This is consistent with the missing helmet overlay in the dialog menu.

The mod will install all overlays independently of the armor mods you have installed. I don't see the benefit of a complicated approach of just picking out what you need. Each overlay is only 2.6 MB, so I think it's okay to "waste" some space. If you really need space, you have to select it manually. Most mods have their own folders so it should be easy.

Content and future plans

To understand what this covers (no pun intended) check out the requirements or images section (the quality of the images has been reduced to improve site loading, the quality of the in-game coverage is much higher).

I will only make mods for my own use, but you can still request them. If I use this module I will give it priority. If something is missing in a supported mode, please open a bug report.

I would also support Out of Reach and Maggot Stone.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
