Foreword by Kursan:

This is one of the best design overhauls I've come across for Season of Grey, and is also very FPS-friendly, which can be an issue in Windhelm, especially when loading other mods. I've been using it for a while now, and it keeps it in the load order and adds a nice touch of lore to the Dunmer enclave.

It works well with my own mods "Cozier Taverns" or "Friendlier Taverns", both of which provide considerable modifications to the New Gnisis Tavern. Together they gave the Gray District a much-needed charm. With "Cozier Taverns" you can find a shortcut to the long corridor created by this module on the top floor of the New Gnisis Tavern.

The third mod I recommend going with it is Immersive Gray Zone by Cursedobjects, it does a great job of reshaping all the interiors of the Gray Zone and combines perfectly with this mod. But it does conflict with the Tavern mod I mentioned, so you'll have to choose one or the other or patch them together.

I tinkered with them for my own use, and these three mods give Gray Quarter a very atmospheric overhaul.

The text below is from the original mod page:

When the Red Mountain erupted, many Dunmo fled to the sky. Some of them decided to live in Windheim. In the game Morrowind you can join three large houses, namely Hlaalu, Redoran and Telvanni. While Redoran and Telvanni made a comeback in Skyim, Hlaalu did not. That's because during the Oblivion Crisis, the Empire withdrew from Morrowind in order to save Cyrodiil from the daedra horde, and Hlaalu, who was friendly to the Empire, was quickly destroyed by the other great powers. But what if some Hlaalu remnants find their way into Windhelm and decide to build their own homes in the city? My overhaul took inspiration from the Hlaalu aligned cities of Balmora and Suran in Morrowind. Those of you who have played Morrowind may have already wondered what I'm going to do. The Gray Quarter Overhaul introduces two new NPC houses, and two new dunmer series with their own AI packages. There is also a new players' home called Balruhn, and a new gentlemen's club called Nirn Paradise.

Most likely incompatible with other Windhelm overhaul mods! (See my note above which mods supplement this)

Requires Dragonborn DLC

Change log:

Version 2: In this version, the ladies wear tavern clothes and the bard only plays instrumental music and does not sing

Relan Servi and his wife Arila live in Servi House. In Tevran House lived Melvus Tevran, his wife the former priestess Nelitha and their young daughter the new priestess Darvi. The women would go to the market every day after breakfast and then return to the roof to work with the men. Melvus is chopping wood next to the player's house. Dalvi prayed to Azura, Boethia and Mephala under the watchful eye of his mother. In the evening, everyone in the two families went to hang out at the New Gnisis nightclub, except Dalvi, who didn't like drinking.

In Nirn Paradise, there are naked ladies (no longer present in V2) depending on whichever body type you use (vanilla, bikini body, or nude body). Bartender Othral Hatubis sells dunmer drinks, and you can get your daily dose of smoke from Ryven Dres. Close to Ryven's cubicle and the ladies of the Empire and Argonne. There you can sit down, drop off your mark, and get a free copy of both volumes of The Lusty Argonian Maid. The ladies sometimes get up and shake the tankards and I can't stop them. But then I thought their …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
