Optimize grass and trees

For smaller turf, the reduced texture resolution and mesh size are reduced, resulting in a better fade-in effect at viewing distances.

Bethesda upscaled the Special Edition textures to 1-2k when the game was drawing 3-4 different turfs on the screen, causing many performance issues.

There is currently a better alternative to my mod. Just download Verdant Grass, this is easily the best grass mod, it also has alternative 1k textures so extra guaranteed performance. In the internal settings of Skyrim.ini, lower iMaxGrassTypesPerTexure to 4 or lower and set the density iMinGrassSize to 70 or higher, if you are using Emerald it also has it's own config file in the Data folder. The way grass works in Skyrim, each grass texture is a separate file rather than a sprite sheet, so the more grass changes in the cell you are currently in, the greater the chance of performance degradation due to loading a unique texture file for each grass, increasing the load on the system.

For higher performance, I highly recommend downloading SSE's optimized textures in the BSA version. Then you can install the textured HD module on top of it. This is guaranteed to save more VRAM.

OPTIMIZED GRASS SPRITES

Reduced texture resolution and mesh size reduced for smaller grass size which creates better fading effect at the view distance.

Special Edition textures we're upscaled by Bethesda to 1-2k causing many performance issues when game was drawing 3-4 different grass types on the screen.

There is a better suited alternative to my mod currently. Simply download Verdant Grass, which is obviously the best grass mod out there it also has alternative 1k textures so it has extra guaranteed performance. Inside Skyrim.ini settings lower iMaxGrassTypesPerTexure to something like 4 or lower and set density iMinGrassSize to 70 or higher, if you use Verdant it also has it's own config file in your Data folder. The way grass works in Skyrim, each grass texture is a separate file rather than one sprite sheet, so the more grass variations you have in the current cell you're in, the more it causes your performance to suffer as it loads unique texture files for each grass, increased load strain on your system.

To get even more performance I strongly suggest downloading Optimized Textures for SSE in BSA version. then you can install your texture hd mods on top of it. This will guarantee much more needed VRAM saving.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
