Barrels and sacks now contain rotten food and various debris

This is the loot for minor repairs in the respawn barrels and sacks (also the Dragonborn DLC's urn, not to be confused with the burial urns in the ancient Norse ruins). The aim is to make Carlotta Valentia's (and other food merchants') life easier and to make barrel looting more fun.

This mod is heavily inspired by real-life needs and illnesses, and is used for Requiem playback. It contains no scripts and doesn't touch containers outside of these three, nor does it change vanilla horizontal lists, vanilla foods, cell edits, or anything else.

New tiered list

In a regular bucket, you're most likely to find rotten vegetables as well as some moss or dead insects. However, you have a chance to find a wide variety of items (all herbs except spoiled food).

Food: Most common is stale bread and vegetables, then go for drinks and be lucky to find fresh food; raw food in Solstheim, chances of finding a whole box of cheese or expensive drinks are extremely slim (don't count on it).

Miscellaneous Items: Coal, clay, cheap cooking utensils, and soul stone fragments are some of the items you will often find. Things like iron arrows, locks, furs, glass, rags of clothing and partially broken weapons are hard to find.

The latter can be crafted into suitable ingots (iron or steel) in a furnace. Parts that look wooden and have no material (a few handles) will be useless.

It is said that you can find a piece of expensive ore or gemstone in a barrel of ordinary appearance, but for this you will definitely have to go through billions of curved drops ... first the tail.

Solstheim urns are mostly local loot, but there are also Skyrim opportunities (and vice versa, Skyrim barrels may have Solstheim items). The barrels used on the island are the same as those used in Skyrim (e.g. the food barrels in The Retching Netch), so the items there are also the same.

Non-respawn barrels are not affected as they are typically used in houses and other lively areas, empty barrels are left empty as they are empty, and any other containers (chess, merchant supplies, bandit loot, etc.) are not affected as they are outside the scope of this mod.

General warning

Don't be tempted to eat food that's out of date.

This is very dangerous: it will harm you, destroy your stamina and resistance to disease.

I balanced the food after Requiem 2.0 to restore stamina (same as the incorruptible twin).

The added food uses the vanilla model, but it seems too far-fetched to just have the vanilla texture and pretend it's rotten, and having no food at all is just too sad for me. So I did some color correction... My knowledge in texture editing is very rudimentary, so if you want to make it look better and more realistic and scary, that's great. Now, it's better than nothing, IMHO.

Compatibility

This mod will not edit level lists, but will create new lists and edit the container, adding new level lists directly into it instead of editing a normal list.

So mods editing these containers (I mean using plugins, remeshing will do) will require some tinkering. Just forward the model of the barrel/sack/ur in SSEEdit and it should be golden.

For example, SMIM doesn't seem to have changed any edits of the container (I checked the full version), so it will be fully compatible.

CL's Barrels and Crates will only change the crates in its plugin, so it's also compatible.

The added food comes with the VendorItemFood keyword (vendors won't sell it by default, don't worry about it, but apparently a patch will still add 'em to the merchant's leveled list, haha), so a mod that needs a chance to add food to the game (like iNeed) should be fine. No - patch required.

Mods that add new worlds, locations, etc. will have the same loot if they use the same vanilla container.

For example, Falskaar uses vanilla buckets, so you'll find trash there.

Requiem added a script in the food bucket that can be easily fixed in SSEEdit.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
