Use vanilla meshes to make textures look convincing so the mod is compatible with mesh replacers. But I recommend using the meshes included in the mod, as their shader settings have been tweaked for the best look, and they feature environment mapping, which makes the metal more interesting. They also include the vanilla meshes needed for all the fixes needed, such as UV issues, and the mesh density has been increased in some cases where denser meshes exist for first-person or stock models.
Plugins (.esp) are included to enable environment mapping for Penitus Oculatus cuirass (no unique .nif files in vanilla), as well as enable the full match set of General Carius and make it all playable (for both genders). If you don't care about these features, it doesn't need to be used for other purposes and the texture can be used alone. Of course, the plugin requires the Dragonborn DLC.

Frankly HD Imperial Armor and Weapons
"The Empire is Law! The Law is Sacred!"
Complete visual overhaul of Imperial armor and weapons. Featuring high resolution textures (4k and 2k available), mesh improvements and optional sleeves and pants for Skyrim's weather (used in screenshots).
Includes all armor sets and weapons: heavy, studded, light, Penitus, Tullius and General Carius (with complete matching set); all for both genders; imperial shields; sword, bow and Champion's Cudgel.
The textures have been made to look convincing with vanilla meshes, therefore the mod is compatible with mesh replacers. I do however recommend using the meshes included in the mod since their shader settings have been adjusted to get the best look and they employ enviroment mapping which makes metals more interesting. They also include all fixes vanilla meshes needed, such as UV issues, and mesh density has been increased in some cases where there were denser meshes for first person or inventory models.
A plugin (.esp) is included to enable enviroment mapping on Penitus Oculatus cuirass (that doesn't have a unique.nif file in vanilla) as well as enabling General Carius' complete matching set and making it all playable (for both genders). It is not required for other purposes and the textures can be used by themselves if you do not care about this features. The plugin, of course, requires Dragonborn DLC.
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
