About this mod Machine translation

A simplified version of the "City Entrance Overhaul - Markarth mod" originally released by JPSteel2. Designed for compatibility with other mods that change the surrounding area.

This module is based on JPSteel2's "City Entrance Overhaul - Markarth" module. While I've always liked the aesthetic of the mod itself, it created some horrible incompatibility issues with a whole bunch of mods - almost anything that wouldn't dare breathe on the Markarth skin. So the reason for making this mod was to make a simplified version of the original mod for JPSteel2 that tried to retain as many of the good things as possible while getting rid of most of the beautification edits done to the area in front of the door that conflicts the most with other mods.

All of this is of course done with permission from the original author.

Install

Simply download and install the mod via the Mod Manager of your choice. .esp should generally be placed as low as possible in the load order, but if using one of these two mods, make sure to place it above Open Cities and Realistic Waters 2. For the best experience, DynDOLOD should be run after installation to generate LODs. I've included working rules in the mod's folder which should take care of everything - please note that due to some unusual assets being used I've had to resort to setting LOD 4 for larger sections of the wall to use the whole object, otherwise you'll see inconsistent or completely invisible sections of the wall when moving away from the wall. Depending on your computer, this may cause performance degradation. SSELODGEN is not fully supported as I only use it for terrain LOD generation.

compatibility

Of course, the main goal of this mod is to try to increase compatibility with various mods. In its current shape, it should be compatible with anything that doesn't significantly alter Markarth's doors and walls. Here is a short list of some popular mods that were in some cases previously incompatible with the original mods and now work in this version.

Open City - Compatible, load OC after this mod

Realistic Water Two - Compatible, load RW2 after this mod

Enhanced Landscape - Compatible, loaded before this mod

Immersive Citizens - compatible, loaded before this mod

Skyrim Sewers - should be compatible

JK's Skyrim - Compatible

Dawn of Skyrim - Compatible

Castle in the Sky - Rise of Markarth - should be compatible, as Castle in the Sky is currently broken by Open Cities, so can't test it myself

Updated Markarth appearance - compatible

Better city entrances - mostly compatible, some minimal conflicts that don't really affect anything

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
