About this mod Machine translation
Falmer skin, male and female, and female armor texture overhaul.
This is a Falmer skin, male and female, and female armor HD texture overhaul. It doesn't include the vampire Falmer, just his normal self and teeth. Bethesda releases female and her armor with DLC01. The vanilla files that install the official HD texture pack include 2K male skins and 1K female skins. 1k female armor.
For reference, these are the folders I work in:
textures\actors\falmer (there are two files here, male skin)
textures\dlc01\actors\falmer (there are four files here, female skin and armor)
textures\actors\dlc01\falmervampire (Falmer Frozen vampire teeth here)
Falmers are blind. I can't understand how the eyes are made, they look messy on screen and with textures. It looks like they don't have the slits for the eyelids, but the eyes are not defined or even different from the rest, as you can see from the screenshot comparison. I tried to go slightly blind but didn't like it. But before going blind, they saw once. So I tried to give them a feel, suggesting a slit-closed eyelid, seeing them no longer using their eyes, simulating a kind of myopic expression on the male, but I'm not sure if this is vanilla concept art: "Their eyes are tiny and useless. (...) Although blind, their senses of hearing, smell and touch are far beyond those of most other races".
I'm not using the Falmer male armor (the one the player can equip), that's another path (Textures\Armor\falmerarmor). So, to avoid misunderstanding, the male armor you see in the screenshot is vanilla, not mine. Behind the base skirt I had to work, since they live in the same skin file (male uses it less in females, it's always visible), the only armor I had to work with, included in this build, was the female one, which had its own file in the same folder as the female skin. This is the armor she wears on the chest/shoulders and also the skin file on the bottom. Puzzled? Me too. I have to make sure they complement each other.
I saved the skin diffuse map in DXT1 1bit alpha instead of vanilla DXT3, saving half the weight in all packages; this is because in my opinion the diffuse alpha channel of these files doesn't need to be as detailed. I mean it's probably better for the smooth version, which is used for cutting teeth and skirts, but sacrificing them works well enough and isn't good for weight loss.
I can't include the Frozen Falmer Vampire diffuse map. His vanilla mesh is a mess and a diffuse map. Anyway, they use the same normal map of the male Falmer I work on. The designers didn't make it completely new, they wanted to start with a diffuse map of men's skin, stretching the texture on the mesh to quickly avoid parts of the skirt. They only shot one leg and the rest, they also used a cube map and another layer (white.dds) to get the freeze effect. All of these things don't match up well, and the result is full of seams, and whatever changes you make to this diffuse won't be too noticeable. I should modify the mesh to fix it and make it better by making it load a completely new skin, or by searching for other solutions. I'll look at it again if I have time, for now I ended up just including the vampire teeth, in 512x512 instead of 128x128. He will still "wear" my normal and teeth, but it doesn't make a huge difference.
As with my previous versions, these are just texture files. You can preview the results by viewing screenshots. They refer to the full 4k version. The only one I tested.
Comments and suggestions are welcome.
have fun!

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
