About this mod Machine translation

Gain levels by completing quests and exploring. Skills no longer contribute to character level!

describe

Ever worried about accidentally advancing the wrong skill that led to your level? You don't have to anymore. You can now earn levels by completing quests and exploring. Skills do not grant experience, but for balance reasons they are capped relative to the player's level (see the Skill Caps section below). Feel free to train lockpicking instead of actually gawking yourself!

Extremely inspired by Pillars of Eternity and the 4.0.1 world of World of Warcraft weapon skill progression system.

feature

Fully integrated with the original experience system and experience bar

You gain native experience points in Skyrim (no secondary XP system)

No esp files, no scripts, no impact on performance

Compatible with custom tasks and locations

Compatible with HUD replacements

Highly customizable (advanced users only)

Optional "XP from kills" feature

Power leveling

This mod uses vanilla crafting recipes (the XP required for each level is the same as the original system).

The leveling curve can be adjusted by adjusting the fXPLevelUpBase and fXPLevelUpMult original game settings. Other mods that edit these settings are compatible and somewhat recommended for experimenting with different values.

skill cap

Skill training works just like in the vanilla game, but for balance reasons they are now limited relative to the player's level.

The skill cap starts at 30 (meaning you can't train your skill higher than 30 at level 1) and increases by 2 each level. At character level 36, there are no more hats.

Default skill cap values for level ranges are listed below (values in between are dynamically scaled):

+ -------- + ------- ------- + ------- + ------- + ------- + + ------- ------- + +

|Player| 01-05 | 06-10 | 11-15 | 16-20 | 21-25 | 26-30 | 31-35 |

+ -------- + ------- ------- + ------- + ------- + ------- + + ------- ------- + +

|Skills| > 30 | > 40 | > 50 | > 60 | > 70 | > 80 | > 90 |

+ -------- + ------- ------- + ------- + ------- + ------- + + ------- ------- + +

compatibility

Compatible with custom tasks and discoverable/clearable locations.

Compatible with game and perk overhauls.

FAQ

Q: I don't get XP and this mod doesn't work!

A: It requires SKSE64 2.0.8 and SkyrimSE 1.5.50 to work, you must install them.

Q: Do I need to start a new game?

A: If it's installed in the game, it won't break anything, but you will miss out on XP for all the missions you've already completed.

Q: Do I need to clear the save when updating?

A: No, it is a SKSE plugin so it can be disabled, enabled and updated during playback without destroying your saves.

Q: Why are "Miscellaneous" tasks disabled by default?

A: Other mods use these tasks to save script-based systems, and they are usually done silently in the background

(They won't show the middle of the screen notification, but the game will still count them as real mission completions).

Question: When I start a new game with Alternate and start another life, I immediately gain experience points to reach level 3.

A: I recommend enabling this mod when starting to play the "Alternate start" mod, and then enabling it after the initial spam is complete.

Q: Can I keep XP skills in addition to this new system?

A: Yes, there is an option, but skill XP may need to be adjusted by editing the "fXPPerSkillRank" game settings.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
