About this mod Machine translation

The SSE version of Elphants Script Latency Tester is found here.

I contacted @Mitchalek as the elephant seemed to be absent. Mitchalek approved the transplant in simple words: "Credit is enough."

So any credit given to the original idea goes to @Mitchalek.

During the Age of Legends utility became very useful and I have used it to test the effects of my new playthrough scripts. This is the original description:

describe

This mod provides the ability to run simple Papyrus script latency tests with optional logging and/or notifications.

It may be useful if you suspect you have an overloaded scripting system.

Note that this test is basically the same as the mod Convenient Horses provided by mitchalek. This mod is for anyone who wants to be able to run tests but doesn't care about installing the mod.

How to use

The first time Skyrim is run after installing this mod, it will give players minor powers called Elephant's Script Latency Test. This power is used for start and stop testing. If the test is currently running, using power will give you the option to stop the test.

The test has three launch options.

  • Send results to Papyrus log file.
  • Display the results as an on-screen notification.
  • Do the above two points.

Require

Skyrim Special Edition latest version

compatibility

This mod does not make any changes to any Bethesda records, so should be compatible with anything as far as I know.

Install

Copy files...

Elephant'sScriptLatencyTester.esp

Elephant'sScriptLatencyTester.bsa... Go to your Skyrim Data directory and make sure Elephant'sScriptLatencyTester.esp is checked in the data files list. Mods can be located anywhere in the load order. Optionally use any Mod Manager tool.

Note that the Elephant'sScriptLatencyTester.bsl file can also be copied, but is only required if you wish to unpack the bsa file.

uninstall

Please note that there is no way to remove any mod from a running Skyrim game 100% safely. The only guaranteed way is to revert to a save you made before installing the mod. That being said, this mod, although scripted, is very lightweight and non-intrusive. If you choose to uninstall it, I don't think you'll run into any persistence issues. If you do this, follow these steps:

  • Make sure the delay test is not running.
  • Save and exit Skyrim.
  • Remove Elephant'sScriptLatencyTester.esp from the Data Files list.
  • Restart Skyrim, load the save you just made, and then make another save.

upgrade

No special procedures are required. Just replace the old file with the new version of the file.

integral

Elephant42 is used for the original extraction Script Latency Tester, found in the Mitchaleks Convenient Horses Mod.

Mitchalek (mitchalek@yahoo.com) gave permission to use some code from his Convenient Horses mod.

Permissions

Do what you like with it. If you use any one credit Elephant42 will be suitable.

If you want to use the main test script, you need permission from mitchalek (mitchalek@yahoo.com).

Frequently Asked Questions:

What would you suggest is a massive script delay?

I have no idea. According to Google, positive numbers are 60-80, while most agree that anything above 120-140 should be considered problematic, and anything over 200 milliseconds will have an impact on the stability of the script.

In SSE, no matter how many script mods there are, or texture mods I add, I keep 80ms. There are two exceptions. One is ENB (nothing dramatic) and the other is a Mod I don't want to make public. It increases script latency by over 220 milliseconds, and the mod is part of a list of dangerous modules found on Reddit. So go check it out.

However, it never drops to 80ms, either because the game is capped at 80ms, or you need to change the .ini settings to lower this number.

How do I think about what is a good latency for my setup?

Tested in vanilla only. Test in an area that you frequently use for the same testing procedures. Do a battle test, a test with a battle. If you want to benchmark, take …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
