A quick mesh mashup to protect the neck issue of the default male ebony armor model

So if you happen to be one of those guys who likes the standard shape of the ebony armor for male characters, you might find an issue at some point when wearing the matching helmet. There's something about this exposed patch of skin that always grabs my attention and bothers me more than it should. Since by the laws of probability there should be someone else with the same little trigger, I thought I'd share a rough solution.

Using Nifskope, I took the underwear of the ebony mail model and slapped it on top of the normal armor model. You may ask why? Simple, the Ebony Mail has a nicer two-part model that includes a full bodysock with a cover shaped to fit the male neck. So with this quick Frankenstein job, the plain ebony armor had a proper fitting cover that patched the neck seam.

This is by no means a correct solution, but, with ebony mail-grip mesh in places, the normal armor is mostly strips of fabric hanging down between the legs in the front, and a little bit on the legs. Of course, a bit of Ebony Mail still uses textures from its own set, so depending on the replacement texture, the two may look less neat, although it shouldn't be an issue, it also means your loadout isn't a texture set but a 2-in-1 armor.

Still because I find myself looking at the back of my neck more than my crotch, I find this 5-minute fix much better than staring at the obvious neck gap. Unless someone capable of actually solving this problem brings this or another solution, removing the neck on this tie leaves the head floating without an ebony helmet.

So if you happen to be one of those people that likes the look of the stock standard shape of the Ebony armor for male characters you may have at some point spotted a bit of an issue that crops up when wearing it with the sets matching helmet. This exposed patch of skin sticking out always draws my eye and bothers me much more than it should. Since by law of probability there should be others with this same petty trigger I thought I should share a rough solution.

Using Nifskope I took the undersuit of the ebony mail model and slammed it in on the normal armor model. Why you might ask? Simple, the Ebony mail has a better two part model that includes a full bodysock that features a properly shaped cover for the male neck. So with this quick frankenstein work the normal ebony armor has a proper fitting cover that patches up out neck seam.

This is by no means a proper fix however as the mesh piece taken from the ebony mail clips in some places with the normal armor mostly with the fabric strip hanging down between the legs in front but also a little here and there on the legs. Also the bit from the ebony mail of course still uses the textures from its own set so depending on replacement textures the two may not look so neat together, and while it shouldn't be an issue this also means your loading not one texture set but two in one armor piece.

Still since I find myself looking at the back of my own neck more than my crotch I find this 5 minute fix much better than staring at the glaring neck gap. unless somebody with the talent to really fix this comes along its this or another fix here that deletes the neck making the head float without an ebony helmet on.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
