I'm building a vanilla plus mods setup. However, I couldn't find a lightweight horse overhaul that fit my needs. Vanilla horses are always too slow, have too much stamina, and die too easily. During my search I found more horses (foal herd saddle and more) which is a great model but the added horses and other features don't fit my vanilla plus game. So I built my own horse mod based on changes to its stats and movement adjustments.
This mod is based on more horses (foal herd saddles and more). Credit to Nyphani. If you want more horses and saddles, check it out!
feature
Improve horse movement and handling
Horse sprint speed increased by approximately 60%. More realistic feeling like you are actually riding a horse!
Adjustments to fluid handling based on more horses, immersive movements, and other movements from my personal experience.
more stamina
Vanilla horses like, 100 stamina (except Shadowmere), the same as your level 1 character. Your horse may run out of stamina from the sprint from Whiterun Stables to the Western Watchtower. For games without fast travel, it's even more annoying.
Each horse now has a base of 200 stamina, plus 50 to 400 stamina depending on the type of horse.
(Stamina regeneration is halved, so that when your horse runs out of stamina, you need to stop sprinting for a significant amount of time. You still need to have some control over your stamina.)
Diverse Horse Statistics
Each type of horse has its own statistics! These values are scaled/adjusted based on More Horses.
Lonely (Lvl.4): Very fast, most endurance, lowest HP, cowardly, protected
Markarth (Lvl.4): Fast, low endurance, low HP, average confidence, protected
Riften (Lvl.4): Average Speed, Average Stamina, Average HP, Cautious, Protected
Whiterun (Lvl.4): Slower, high endurance, very high HP, brave, protected
Windhelm (Lvl.4): Slowest, very high stamina, high HP, cautious, protected
Frost (Lvl.25): Fastest, extremely high endurance, extremely high HP, cautious, protected, does not affect the stealth meter
Shadowmere (Lvl.50): Fast, highest endurance, highest HP, brave, essential, does not affect the stealth meter
Arvak (Lvl.35): Slower, infinite endurance, extremely high HP, cautious
Other wild and unhandled horses also have different statistics, similar to their stable counterparts, but are not marked as "protected".
Require
It is recommended to start a new game so that the stat changes can be made to all horses!
Horses that spawn do not receive any changes to their statistics.
compatibility
Any mod that changes the recorded Horse Movement Type, Horse Actor Value and Horse Race will be incompatible. I suggest you take a look at Xedit to check for conflicts.
More Horses (Foal Herd Saddles and More): Incompatible. Use this mod if you want more horses and saddles and other features.
Immersive Sports: Compatible. My mod will override horse movement type recording.
Handy Horses: Compatible. My mod will override horse movement type recording. The training feature has not been tested. Fighting style settings may override confidence changes.
Simple Horse: Should be compatible. Not tested. Confidence changes may be covered.
suggestion
Heartland Horses: Mesh replacement. Subtle improvements. Make the horse look better.
Hale - Horse Retexture: LE mod. The best retexture mod IMO.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
