About this mod Machine translation

Full control over which spells can be sold from vendors. Only specific spells are allowed, discover only custom-made spells you've never seen before.

Overview

I started creating this mod about half a year ago when I wasn't really happy with the way I encountered spells. First, I personally like finding spells in the wild, but don't like encountering a large number of spells in vendors. Like most things in this game, modding can fix this problem, but I found one that had removed the wholesale option. Vendors, loot, pretty much any spellbook will be removed from the game.

This pairs perfectly with spell learning systems (such as Spell Research, Spell Learning and Discovery, Gromaul - Spell Mastery), but with the latter learning depends on the spell tome, while the former is too slow (rightfully so) to learn a steady stream of spells. Most importantly, a patch is needed for mods that inject level lists.

Spell Deja Vu solves all these problems and provides customization options for those who want more control over the spell vendors and even non-spell vendors selling them.

feature

-Main function: Spell discovery and rediscovery

The spell no longer floods the vendor's inventory. The only spells that will show up are the ones discovered or the spells you choose. The Tome of Spells can be customized to allow different treatment of spells of different levels (novice, adept, etc.), classify them as high chance, low chance, or medium chance, and even choose to always allow them or never allow them. The MCM customizer also has an option to assign these custom categories to the individual spells themselves, overriding their native categories.

There are further options for those who want to further customize their experience, where you can tie an individual spell's chance to its value and determine how much a value should weight the chance.

Spells You Do Know also features some customization options, allowing you to allocate the chance of missing certain spells you'll rediscover, or you can choose to never find spells you know again.

Additionally, you can choose to give spell sellers a lower chance of selling spells than normal spell sellers. If a spell vendor doesn't explicitly sell spells, but they can still be bought/sold, then the chance of finding the spell there will be penalized. You can even make this penalty completely remove spells from non-spell providers.

-Highly compatible

Spell Deja Vu is highly compatible and will not overwrite a single original game file or edit any game settings. Instead, it reads the game's standard level list and collects spells that can be sold from it. But don't worry if your mod list has custom vendors with custom level lists. Spell Deja Vu uses a dynamic inclusion method that will check for and introduce unmanaged spells when interacting with merchants. This option can be turned on and off in the Tools section of MCM.

  • Suitable for various game styles

Like I said, I like less spells when talking to vendors, but I love spell mods. Apocalypse, mystery, lost spell, you name it. The downside to having so many spells in the list, however, is that it's hard to go all out when there are so many options. Maybe you're like me and just need a little bit of dominance in view. Alternatively, you may wish to permanently remove all spells from each vendor. Or maybe you just want to rediscover a spell you used to know. It doesn't matter which frequency you prefer, how often you want to see spells more or less often, as long as you don't want to see some spells with a certain ability, but you'll understand what I mean).

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
