Dark Skyrim Overhaul
Desolation Falls Barrow
describe
I'm currently working on an overhaul to make Skyrim a dark, spooky and tougher place. This will be a long-term work in progress. I'm playing around with Creation Kit and learning as I go. Keep an eye out for more Dark Skyrim overhaul releases in this series.
I've always thought that Bleak Falls Barrow lacked a lot, was boring, and very simple. There are more level bandits. I added bandit pets to add more immersion and difficulty. I kept the bandits habitable outside due to the cold and snow. There are also 2 Thalmor agents combined with Arvel The Swift (depending on whether you started the Bleak Falls Barrow Quest). Inside, I added more levels of draugr in the ruins plus more visually eerie elements to make the pace even more creepy.
If you're low level, you'll want a minion or two, otherwise you'll find yourself overwhelmed by bandits and thugs. I love challenges!
Have fun and try not to die!!!!
compatibility
This only uses Vanilla assets, so it can be used with any texture model, weather and lighting mods, and game modes. I tried to make it as compatible as possible with other mods.
This will be compatible and any mod will add content in the same locations this mod adds to Bleak Falls Area. If you're not sure, ask.
Compatible with no snow under roof...requires patch in documentation section.
Install
There are two main files. Only install one.
The "No Thalmor" file is for those who have completed the Bleak Falls Barrow Main Quest. It removes Thalmor associated with Arvel The Swift. Use this file if you have already restored a Golden Claw.
Of course, the original master file is for those of you who haven't even been to Bleak Falls Barrow. Use this file if you haven't restored the Golden Claw yet. This file is not required for new games. Be sure to load it up before going to Bleak Falls Barrow.

Description
I am currently working on a overhaul to make Skyrim a dark, spooky and tougher place. This will be a long Work In Progress. I am having fun with the Creation Kit and learning as I go. Be on the lookout for more Dark Skyrim Overhaul mods in this series.
I have always thought that Bleak Falls Barrow was lacking a lot, boring and was very very simple to get through. There are more leveled bandits added. I added bandit pets to add more immersion and difficulty. I made the outside livable for the bandits due to the cold and snow. There are also 2 Thalmor Agents to tie into the story line with Arvel The Swift (Depending on if you started the Bleak Falls Barrow Quest). Inside I have added more leveled draugr throughout the ruins plus added more visual spooky elements to make the pace more creepy.
If you are low leveled, you will want to have a follower or two or you will find yourself overwhelmed with bandits and draugr. I love a challenge!!!

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
