About this mod Machine translation
Added some backstory and motivation to some Dark Brotherhood contracts.
I made this mod purely for fun. All of this is done by adding and occasionally tweaking some notes, journals, and letters to add a little extra story about certain goals.
This mode doesn't turn the Dark Brotherhood into righteous angels of justice. It remains a murder-for-money organization with little regard for whether the victims deserve it. It does not turn all victims of the Dark Brotherhood into evil, unrepentant sinners who deserve death. It's still possible to murder a completely innocent person, especially when you have a choice. All of these mods try to provide some backstory and sometimes motivations for certain goals. Not everyone. For example, Grelod the Kind viciously abuses children. The motive for her murder was clear enough that there was no need to elaborate. As for those affected, it's still up to the individual player to decide if you want to sign a contract.
I don’t handle all contracts. Only the ones you have to complete to complete the main storyline, and only when I feel like the motivations in the game aren't satisfying enough anymore. So, lest you're looking for diaries and notes that don't exist, here's a list of backstory contracts I wrote:
Fultheim the Fearless, Alea Quintus and Vasha (now it's possible to find out which one is in the contract)
Beitild, Narfi (I recommend you do his side quest first) and Ennodius Papius
Lurbuk and Hern
Vittoria Vicci
Gaius and Commander Maro
Anton Virane and The Gourmet
Emperor Titusmede II
I hope you like it.

I made this mod purely for fun. All it does is add a little bit of extra story about some of the targets by adding and occasionally adjusting a few notes, journals and letters.
This mod doesn't turn the Dark Brotherhood into righteous angels of justice. It's still an organization that murders for money, with little thought spared on whether or not the victims deserve it. It doesn't turn all Dark Brotherhood victims into evil, unrepentant sinners deserving of death either. It's still possible to murder someone entirely innocent, especially when you're given a choice. All this mod does is try to provide a bit of backstory and sometimes motivation for some of the targets. Not all of them. For example, Grelod the Kind viciously abuses children. The motive for her murder is clear, so there's really no need to elaborate. As for those who are affected, it's still on the individual player to decide whether or not you want to go through with the contract.
I haven't tackled every contract. Only the ones you absolutely have to complete to finish the main storyline, and only if I felt the in-game motivation wasn't quite satisfying enough already. So to spare you from hunting around for diaries and notes that don't exist, here's the list of contracts I did write backstory for:
Fultheim the Fearless, Alea Quintus, and Vasha (It's possible to find out which one has the contract on their head now)
Beitild, Narfi (I recommend you do his side-quest first), and Ennodius Papius
Lurbuk and Hern
Vittoria Vicci
Gaius and Commander Maro
Anton Virane and The Gourmet
Emperor Titus Mede II
I hope you enjoy.
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
