Original klingon bat'leth design, fit for a champion of the empire

what it can do

It now adds an original Klingon Bat'leth, called the Dahar Master's Bat'leth. (Master Dahal was a Clinton warrior who became a legend among his peers for their heroic deeds.) It was inspired by the legendary Swordless Blade, but was still an original mesh. It's supposed to be the bat of a great warrior from the same era, rather than actually being Kahless's own legendary sword.

It is available in 4 versions, all black or brown leather combinations for the grip (there are a lot of brown leather outfits in Skyrim), and with or without the Klingon emblem embossed on the blade. It's up to you to decide which way is best.

The badge is not mirrored between the blade faces, so the "arm" should curve to the right when viewed from either side.

Approximately 116 cm long (approximately 46 inches) from tip to tip, with a grip width of 5 cm (2 inches), both dimensions stated by Jadzia Dax in DS9 Blood Oath, and confirmed by the actual Dahar Master as being of "Warrior's" configuration. "So, let's say a normal person in the game is about 5'10" or so.

From there, however, I used my own aesthetic preferences and the game's animations as a guide. For example, choosing 2 grips instead of 1 for the Sword of Kahless, or 3 grips for a modern bat, mostly based on hand position. For example, the back of the tip is sharp because at least one of the Dance of Death kills included a backslash, so I made the sword realistic enough to be able to do devastating draws with the back.

Balance-wise, it's on par with a Cunning Greatsword, but it deals twice as much critical damage and has twice the critical strike chance. It also has a silver effect, which allows it to gain up to a 5x damage multiplier from stealth if you get the 15x dagger multiplier. (Although, obviously, no honorable Klingon warrior would do something as dishonorable as sneaking around and backstabbing their opponents ;) )

Basically it's a very good ultimate weapon, but not top tier. It doesn't get much better than vanilla weapons. Well, unless you secretly use it for a backstab.

It can use steel, corundum and leather strips to create handles. I'm sorry about what the "composite" material is, I don't want it to be green or yellow like some of the metals in the game should be, so I think steel with extra corundum will have to do.

It's based on "The Empire" because, you know, the Klingon Empire :p

It can be strengthened with steel ingots.

Known issues

  • Some killing animations, i.e. stabbing animals, especially killing modes like VioLens, look like this sword shape. Sadly there's not much I can do as the animations apply to all weapons and even if I could edit them then the kills on everything else would go wrong.

On the plus side, some of the mace and ax animations that this kill mode adds to the sword actually look better than with the vanilla sword, IMHO.

For balance reasons I kept the same range as the vanilla hands. It might seem strange to hit an entire room of enemies with such a short sword.

  • Technically, it sits in the same spot on the back as any greatsword, with the grip above the shoulder. In this case, however, the grip starts near the center of the sword, so half of the bat will be above the shoulder.

Again, I don't think I can change the position without editing the hands animation, which would mess up the vanilla weapon position.

Description of PURISTS

Yes, this is not a classic in any sense. If this bothers you, please don't download it.

RETEXTURING

Unlike some of my other mods, this one uses a flat orthographic projection of the blade. (Although the sword was bent before, to save texture size.) So if someone wants to paint a new texture for it, it shouldn't cause any additional difficulty.

Alternatively, I include a B/W mask in the image that can be used as the layer's transparency. Make a new 1024x2048 image, fill the edges with a lighter metallic texture, fill the rest …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
