Custom class creation

by sashton043·v1.0·Updated 2020-02-02

Skyrim's lack of real character creation, like Morrowind and Oblivion, has always bothered me. But after playing with mods that added class creation functionality, I decided to create my own version. There are no preset classes, you can create your own! Choose a starting stone, create a class, choose a starting spell, and start exploring Skyrim!

Custom class creation

Birth Signs - Skills - Expertise - Attributes

describe:

The purpose of creating custom classes is to enable you to completely create your own custom classes, from birth marks all the way to the spells you start using. This mod is compatible with any other mod. It doesn't have a script that automatically runs after selecting a race. Instead, your character starts with the power to "choose your destiny." You can use this feature to start creating your character. Theoretically, this mod could be installed during play and you could then create classes without the threat of skill resets, but in the long run I recommend starting a new character to get more out of this mod. Now it's time to highlight the character creation process:

Class creation:

The first and only warning in my course creation module is that all skills start at level 0! When you start creating a class, your skills will not be reset to 0, they will only be reduced by 15, so your progress during existing gameplay will not be affected. This mod can be used as long as you don't already have a mod that lowers your starting skill level.

The purpose of this is to make your character ignorant of the skills he has learned and the skills he has chosen, except for the skills his race knows.

You can download this file without the Apocalypse or Simply Bind Weapon extensions.

The first step to unlocking your character creation abilities is choosing your birth sign. If you choose to use this mod on an existing walkthrough, it will remove any standing stones you may have so you can choose a new one. I chose not to add descriptions to each standing stone for consistency, so there's no need to make a patch to fix these descriptions based on your preferred standing stone overhaul mod. All standing stones are available, as well as a new type of stone called "The Traveler". Those born under the Traveler sign have all skills strengthened by 2 points and all grow 2% faster. These rewards are increased by 1 for each standing stone you find, raising the reward to 15. They can even activate other standing stones without losing signs of their birth.

Next, select a specialization group. Choose from "Combat", "Magic" or "Stealth", and the skills in the group are increased by 10 points and the level is increased by 10%.

After selecting a feat, then choose a main attribute, either Health, Magicka or Stamina. The selected attributes are increased by 20 points.

This is the part where you choose all your skills, but I decided to do something different. The first choice is the armor skill, Alteration, Heavy Armor or Light Armor. The selected armor skill is increased by 25 points.

Next, choose two main skills from all skills except Heavy Armor and Light Armor. If you haven't selected an armor skill, you can choose to change it. Each of these skills increases by 20 points.

Finally, you choose three secondary skills, all except heavy and light armor are also available here. Likewise, if you didn't select the Armor skill, you can select Alternate. Each skill you choose here increases by 10 points.

After completing your selection, you will be asked to confirm your selection. If you click No, you will simply return to the previous "Secondary Skill Selection" screen, which you can return …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
