introduce

The immersive and narrative continuities feature numerous tweaks and additions that are based on reference stories stated in the game, or in individual books, dialogue, or other sources, and are intended to add to the narrative story and flavor of the game.

Each tweak is designed to be lightweight, non-intrusive, immersive and as highly compatible as possible.

This is an ongoing project and more modules will be added as it is developed.

This mod can be considered a revival of steveowashere's Lore Continuity Fixes project, and an amalgamation of similar existing Lore-based tweaks.

Changes related to unofficial patches have been forwarded where relevant.

List of all current modules:

  • A dented iron shield looks dented

The Dented Iron Shield is an item added by the Dragonborn DLC and can usually be found and looted on the new Draugr variant, the Hulking Draugr.

The file makes the shield look noticeably deformed and appear to have 25% less armor rating than a normal iron shield. This module has a script that is run only once instead of direct esp record editing for maximum compatibility and minimum hassle. This module requires SKSE (regardless of version).

  • Etching of the Nightingale

"Hold Lady Nocturne's hand, for this is my will to serve you. As the Nightingale, I am reborn. Let my past echo our victory." -Los

The etching was made on a stone slab in Dragonsreach Prison, where, according to this article, a Dunmer named Lorthus was imprisoned.

The file adds this etching to a cell in Whiterun Prison, which can be activated for clear reading.

  • Farenga buys the remains of Soaring Dragon

Farengar Secret-Fire is Whiterun's court wizard and an avid researcher of Dragons.

Spoilers: Show

With this addon he will purchase Dragon Bones, Scales and Heart Scales from players.

This particular module requires SKSE and powerofthree's SSE's Papyrus Extender, and has a script that only runs once, rather than doing esp record editing directly, for maximum compatibility and minimal hassle.

  • Dawn Star’s Nightmare Debuff

The inhabitants of Dawnstar are plagued by nightmares and restless nights, and will continue to suffer until the waking nightmare ends.

In the vanilla game, players will not be affected if they sleep on the Dawn Star before the relevant mission is completed, and will even be rewarded with "rest" like elsewhere.

Disclaimer: There is a dialogue in the vanilla game stating that Nightmares do not affect travelers, so if you are playing a character who has already settled in Dawnstar, this mod would be appropriate. If not, it's up to your discretion.

With this file in place, if players sleep on Dawnstar, they will also suffer dream corruption and find themselves tortured, unable to improve their skills for the next eight hours. This debuff can be seen in the Active Effects menu.

  • Precious Balmoral Blue

Described as "beyond value", in the vanilla game this contraband is worth only 68 Septims.

Using this file, the item's value is changed to 1000 Septims, 500 less than what Smuggler Sabine Nytte requires of the player in the related quest. This change is purely cosmetic, as players can't sell or use the item in regular gameplay. This project is edited directly, and there may be conflicts with mods editing the project, so plugin loading order needs to be kept in mind.

  • Step 418

The second song, from the ancient story of King Wulfharth's Five Songs, mentions that the 418th step on the road to High Hrothgar was destroyed by a dragon.

It also mentions that the steps were later rebuilt by King Wolfheart, one of his deeds witnessed and praised by the Elder God.

This file adds an etched pedestal on the path to High Hrothgar near Emblem II, and can be activated to view an ancient manifesto about that particular step.

The position of the base was inspired by C …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
