Thanks for your interest in my first (released) mod. Additionally, users Rasikko and OldMansBeard helped me solve an incredibly frustrating issue with the Creation Kit. I couldn't even complete this very basic and simple mod without them.
Please read all descriptions below before asking me any questions. Sorry, no tl;dr version.
Overview
It's no secret that Skyforge Steel weapon sets have big gaps. Most vanilla-Skyrim weapon sets have 9 weapons, but the Skyforge Steel set only has 5. I find that all other mods try to fill this gap and have a lot of (in my opinion) unnecessary bells and whistles. They have gorgeous new textures, or they add a bunch of other new weapons and armor, or they do something more ambitious like a massive revamp of the companion quest line.
This mod doesn't have that fluff. All this does is add four new Skyforge Steel weapons: hammer, war hammer, bow and arrow, with the same properties and characteristics as the rest. They have the attack damage of elven weapons and the carrying weight of regular steel weapons. You can't craft them, but you can temper them on any grindstone. In the end, they look just like their regular steel counterparts. The only exception is the Bow, which, in a deliberate nod to irony (since Eorlund Gray-Mane is a Stormcloak supporter), looks like a royal bow.
When you reach the point in the Companions questline where Eorlund Gray-Mane gives you free weapons, you can now select these from a list. Thereafter, they can also be purchased from Eorlund's shop.
The only other change to this model is to remove Aela the Huntress' awful Hunter's Bow and Iron (?!) Arrows from her inventory in exchange for Skyforge Steel Bow and Arrows.
That's it. So if you just want to fill the void of Skyforge Steel without any extra bells and whistles, this is the one for you.
To throw a bone at people who might want some cosmetics, I've made two additional versions of this mod that increase the attack power of the Skyforge Steel suit. In the default version, they have the attack power of elven weapons. The other two versions increase the attack power to glass weapons and ebony weapons. I've included a simple FOMOD installer that lets you choose which of the three versions you want.
Require
Nothing goes beyond the base game. You do *not* need any other mods, including SKSE.
Install
Mod Manager: Simply download the file using your mod manager and run the very short FOMOD installer.
Manual: Download the archive and open it. Drag and drop the data files for the desired version into the Skyrim Special Edition directory.
You do not need to start a new game when installing this game. This mod should integrate seamlessly even if you've already started or completed the Companions questline. However, I strongly recommend that you check if you have any incompatible mods installed. Please be sure to read the "Compatibility" section below.
uninstall
Remove any new Skyforge Steel weapons from your inventory and, absolutely sure, from the cell your character is in. Then save and exit and delete the ESP and BSA from your Skyrim Special Edition data directory manually or using your mod manager. Please note that this mod does make some minor changes to the level list that determines Eorlund Gray-Mane's store inventory. So I can't guarantee that you can completely uninstall this mod.
compatibility
There is a known conflict with the Special Edition Followers mod, as both mods edit Aela the Huntress. I've created a compatibility patch and included it as an optional install in the FOMOD installer. Only use this patch if you have *BOTH* the full Skyforge weapons set and Special Edition followers installed, and make sure the patch comes after the two mods in your load order.
This mod will almost certainly conflict with any other mod that changes the Skyforge Steel weapon set. If you decide to install both my …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
