Cobb's Burden
[Also available in Skyrim Classic]
This mod changes your movement speed and other attributes based on your inventory. All statistic changes, as well as the weight thresholds that take effect, are fully configurable.
This mod is built from the ground up with an eye on stability. The "obvious" way to write a retention mode is to monitor all changes to your inventory, but this can overtax Skyrim's scripting engine when you pick up or lose a large number of items in a short period of time. In particular, tasks that delete entire lists (such as "Diplomatic Immunity" and "Crazy Thoughts") can generate hundreds of "Remove Item" script events at once. Cobb Encumbrance uses a less obvious approach to inventory and has been put through various stress tests. I can teleport into Bethesda's "QASmoke" test unit, walk to a few containers, and add hundreds of items to my inventory in a matter of seconds without producing the Papyrus log warnings that indicate the scripting engine is overtaxed.
Require
You need the latest version of SKSE64 to run this mod, as well as SkyUI.
feature
Cobb's burden is fully adjustable via MCM. As you gain or lose items, you move between eleven "retention stages." You can configure the weight thresholds that take effect in each stage, the stat changes that are applied in each stage, and the notifications that are displayed in each stage. Configurable statistics are:
Notices (as of this writing, there are 80 options for first person, second person, and Khajiit third person)
Movement speed
Movement speed while running (stacked)
Movement speed while sprinting (stacked)
Maximum endurance
physical recovery
Physical consumption (per second)
Life consumption (per second)
Interleave (enable/disable)
Stagger interval (time between staggers)
This mod provides some basic presets. If you install FISS or JContainers, you can create your own naming presets.
uninstall
There is no guarantee that any scripted mod will uninstall safely. If you want to remove Cobb Encumbrance from your game, I recommend disabling it and then using Savetool 2.04b to delete all data connected to CobbEncumbrance.esp.
If you're not sure if this mod is what you want, it's recommended that you test it for a while before committing. If you don't like it, you can delete all saves made during the test.

This mod changes your movement speed and other stats based on how heavy your inventory is. All stat changes are completely configurable, as are the weight thresholds at which they take effect.
The mod was built from the ground up with a focus on stability. The "obvious" way to script an encumbrance mod is to watch for all changes to your inventory, but that can overburden Skyrim's script engine when you pick up or lose a large amount of items in a short amount of time. In particular, quests that remove your entire inventory (such as Diplomatic Immunity and The Mind of Madness) can generate hundreds of "item removed" script events at once. Cobb Encumbrance uses less obvious ways to handle your inventory, and it stands up to a variety of stress-tests. I can teleport to Bethesda's "QASmoke" testing cell, walk up to some containers, and add hundreds of kinds of items to my inventory in seconds, without generating the Papyrus log warnings that indicate that the script engine is overburdened.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
