Immersion/Economy/Games

Whenever you sell equipment to certain blacksmiths, there's a chance they'll pass those items into a Stormcloak or Imperial "Possible Items" chest. Whenever a Stormcloak or Imperial Cloak is leveled, it has a chance to draw one or more items from the chest.

I've added this script to the level 870+ Tempest cast and the level 909+ Imperial cast.

In effect, this allows players to better equip either side (or both) of a faction war. Goods sold to one side will appear as their random equipment. You can concentrate on selling to one party, or both sides of an armed conflict, and reap huge rewards!

Guards will be equipped with items appropriate to the faction controlling the area at the time, and will pull gear from the faction's chest.

However, the blacksmith will always sell to one party. Depending on their character, they have the opportunity to provide equipment to their preferred side. (See the "Stormcloaks and Empires" list below.)

I think you'll find that this adds an interesting strategic dimension to the game. You can even explore as you complete the main quest, using powerful enchanted gear to strengthen your faction as you conquer Skyrim. Alternatively, you can divide your weapons between the two factions and better equip your guards against the dragon threat.

To do this, you need to find out which blacksmiths serve which side and sell through them.

When you sell equipment to the blacksmith in Skyrim, they will find themselves in the hands of Skyrim's civil war factions. These include the town guards, who may be Stormcloaks or Imperial Guardsmen, depending on which faction is in control at the time.

Sell armor to the blacksmith in Loneliness and you'll see more members of the Imperial faction taking possession of the item you're selling. This makes forging satisfying, as you can outfit your guard exactly how you want. You can forge your own custom armor and weapons for your faction.

This also applies to the Stormcloaks, who have individually chosen blacksmiths to pass down gear to. So by selling one side better gear, you cause one side to become stronger in a toe-to-toe fight with the other side.

Higher level faction NPCs will extract items from the items you sell to the blacksmith. You can use this to your strategic advantage by providing your preferred faction with powerful equipment to help advance your Civil War mission.

You will want to consider which blacksmith to sell the item to, as some of them have a higher chance of passing the item to the Civil War faction. If you find yourself in enemy faction territory, you might want to pay attention to which weapons are on sale. The ax on sale tomorrow could split you or your companions.

This mod makes the game's blacksmiths even more special by adding another dimension to them. The effect can be seen everywhere there is a guard. You'll find yourself thinking about blacksmiths, guards, and factions very differently.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
