I've always been frustrated with the mage experience. Adding content is fun and good, but I've always felt that being a mage is a kind of pilgrimage. The mage discovers books, he acquires knowledge, and he truly immerses himself in the sense of learning and training spells. It's not just a simple "devour" spell, become a super mage with countless spells in 3 seconds.
This module is a big experiment for me and I have a lot of ideas about it, but this is a stable version and I want to release it.
What this MOD does:
It's impossible to get trashed by reading a spelling book these days. Each time the player does this, he enters a stage of "Knowledge" (check the images section). After the third stage (so you can learn 3 spells at the same time), reading another spell will put you in a "stupid" state, which is actually a disease.
Stupid status reduces skill boosts gained from casting spells by 50%.
The only cure for stupidity is a potion, "Thalidor's Elixir," sold by alchemists or built on the dungeon's roster.
No more non-immersive magic scaling. Every spell fan will appreciate this way of increasing player power for casting spells. Alterations and Charms increase the duration of these school spells. Destruction, illusion, restoration, increased potency. This is truly a pure mage experience. You no longer need to carry 20,000 potions, learning spells gives you the power you need to become the best mage you can be.
A cool animation that makes you feel like you're reading a spell whenever you read one.
In my experience, I really like having a limited set of spells and having to create a strategy. Slowly gain the freedom of choice of an experienced mage.
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
