"No One Escaped the Cidhna Mine" was always one of the most interesting missions in Skyrim in my opinion, but I can't be alone in feeling overwhelmed by the location itself. How many prisoners are there in several small rooms? I want to do better.
With this expansion, the mines are a dark, twisting maze that reaches deep into the earth. When you're sent to talk to a specific prisoner, you're going to have to do some exploring!
Some of its passages are lit only by torches on the ground. You can pick them up and light your way...but if they burn out it will leave a darker place!
Along the way, you'll meet a variety of new characters. Most people are fiercely loyal to the king in Rags, but two are willing to escape with you. Which two? The only way to find out is to ask! Each new prisoner is given a brief conversation asking for their help. Those who say "yes" will give you the standard "come with me" dialogue.
If you choose to fight your way out, you will face significant opposition. You may need these new allies to keep you alive. If you're on Madanach's side, get ready to watch his powerful new army unleash waste upon their oppressors!
In the depths of Skyrim's most notorious prison, these and other secrets await you...
About the Deluxe Edition:
This file is my preferred version of the mod. It utilizes some Dawnguard assets and uses carefully chosen hairstyles from Apachii to give most of the new NPCs a more unique, grayer appearance. Don't worry about them looking too glamorous. I want most of them to have long hair that looks like they haven't seen a hairdresser in a long time. Vanilla hair is not very good. I'm also providing a stripped-down version, except for those without one or the other, using only vanilla assets. If you only have Dawnguard or you only have Apachii Sky Hair, just grab the basic hair, it doesn't matter. These differences aren't enough to make more versions worth it!
warn:
Once the installation is complete, do not load previously saved games within Cidhna Mine. It's going to be all kinds of broken, trust me! For best results, play the Markarth questline from the beginning.
It is possible to be dropped into the Cidhna Mine for average daily crimes, but not as part of the Markarth quest. That wouldn't be that cool. Complete missions trigger new dialogue and more. Clear your bounty before going to Markarth.
Technical details:
There aren't many mods to mess with Cidhna Mine, but obviously you don't want to run this one next to another. There may be some conflicts with the lighting overhaul, so please load it after that.
If you are an experienced modder, I recommend using TES5edit to remove references to Cidhna from your lighting modes. They are located in Block 7, Block 2 and Block 8, Block 4. I also made some small adjustments in Druadach Redoubt, which is block 5, block 5. If you don't know what F-I am talking about here you can safely ignore it.
Vanilla NPCs are unaffected by several others. An aesthetic overhaul of their hair and face will have no conflict with t …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
