Better facial lighting and dialogue

Purpose

What's the point of installing a bunch of mods to make players and NPCs beautiful if you can't see them? Dialogue inside is often very dark, especially when you use lighting modes and ENB.

BFL will help you improve your NPCs by enlightening their faces, and improve dialogue by allowing you to easily discern their expressions and appreciate their beauty.

Why

I've always liked Tktk1's Face Light SE and the conversation auto-switching features from Facelight Plus, but I'm not satisfied. Even though Face light SE is a great mode, from my point of view it lacks customization for light colors, while Facelight Plus often results in CTD when you end a conversation.

At first, my idea was to fix Facelight plus, unfortunately, it is based on Face Light, which does not contain any source. I ended up creating this from scratch (except for the light mesh provided by tktk1). My goal is to suppress all CTD and retain the benefits of Facelight plus.

Since most CTDs are caused by auto-switching features, I use another method to build them and cut off those CTDs that cannot be repaired.

This implant is the best compromise I've found between aesthetics, features, stability, and performance.

I hope you'll enjoy it! Most functions can be toggled through the MCM menu

feature

Choose from 4 light tints (2600K, 3200K, 5400K and 7000K, reddish/warm to bluesy/coolest) configurable to match your enb/taste (all lights share the same tint at the same time).

Independently select level 3 strength for each type of initiation (follower, player, dialogue).

Choose between two lighting options, directly like Face light SE, or closer to the default lighting for photography (by default).

Session switches automatically, no CTD ;). In this version, the lighting effects are tied to the player instead of the NPC. Side effects, it's more stuff (face, torso, environment) than just the face.

Supports up to five followers (performance limit), target your minion, open MCM, add it, and done!

Auto-stealth is automatically toggled (player only) and followers will keep their faces lit, making the sneaking effect almost unnoticeable. Again it avoids a lot of CTD

Auto-off in First PoV (player only) for lighthouse effect.

Automatically switches to First PoV in the dialog (toggleable), it contains a mini travel mimic face to face mod effect, since I don't use the SKSE plugin it's very simple (no auto follow) and should be compatible with everything (even using camera mode).

At the end, you can choose from 3 intensity levels * 4 colors * 2 lighting, for a total of 24 variations! So I hope you'll find something that suits your needs.

I'm open to suggestions if you kindly ask me if I'd like (willingness and time).

notes

Be careful when you use follower setups, it's best to do this when they are not in the same cell as you. Sadly, I can't completely avoid all CTDs in this case.

You can notice your character's light environment as you approach it. It is inevitable that all face lighting mods share this problem, I softened this problem because I can do it by reducing the radius of the light (32 instead of 80 for the face light).

The impact on sneakiness is almost 0, which is why I only turned it off for players, since most high level minions don't affect your stealth level this shouldn't be an issue.

When removing an NPC from the list, his light effects will be removed on the next unit load (Anti-ctd).

Lighting is re-applied when changing Cell, as followers may lose it.

If you lose player control while traveling, I provide an option to regain your control, it only happened once during my testing (alt-tabbed during travel).

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
