An automated python script to make backups of your save games for you!

4306/5000Hello! Welcome to my first contribution to the Skyrim community :)

This is a python script I wrote that will make your backup process much easier and simpler. (that's the goal anyway)

how:

1- First, you have two files to choose from, namely: "Manual" and "Automatic". The manual version requires you to double-click some files, while the automatic version makes a backup every time you start your computer.

2- Once you download any of these files, unzip them somewhere to your comfort.

3- Run "skaver.py" and you will get a prompt window as shown below:

When you first start the program you will have no configuration, here you want to enter "add" (without the quotes). The Delete option allows you to delete any file configurations you have made. This is easy to do so I won't go into details.

</ s> </ s> </ s>

4- After the first check, you will be asked to first enter, the path to the saved game file containing the save content, and the backup folder (storage) created to which all save content will be copied.

To get the "Path" you can simply go to the folder/open it in Explorer and click on the bar to the left of the "Search" bar and copy the blue highlighted text.

6- Once completed, the script will ask you if you want to backup your current SkyrimSE.exe, this can prevent Steam updates, when Steam updates Skyrim SE, it will make some changes to your SkyrimSE.exe, which may prevent you from using certain mods until their developers update them.

7- Based on your selection (if you selected "Yes") the script will ask you for the Skyrim SE folder, which you can copy using the same way shown above (if you don't know where the Skyrim SE folder is, just ask Google, it won't be hard to find)

NOTE: After this, the program will ask you for the version, just enter the version or the name of the backup you want to call, it will be located in C:\Users\(your username)\skyrim executable

8- [AUTO ONLY] If you are using the automatic version, you will be asked for this before performing the above steps. If you don't want your saved games to be backed up on every reboot you can declare a deadline, this is instead of backing up every time you start your PC it will check the date and time the statement has not passed and it will not execute any code. If it passes, that's it. You can only declare time periods longer than 24 hours! (Also don't pay attention to the quotes after the columns, I removed them before uploading the file)

Note: Just enter (for example) "24" (without quotes)

9- Once "skaver.py" is done working, you will have two files (or one file, depending on which one you chose). The first one is "configure.bat", now before I explain it to you, I have to tell you something... This script supports MO2, Vortex profiles! , "configure.bat" allows you to add or remove game folder folders that have associated storage (this will not delete the folders, just exclude them), when you launch "configure.bat" it will ask you the same thing as when you first launched the script, but this time, it will simply add them to the list of monitored folders.

10- "skaver.bat" is a file that is not needed by users who choose the "automatic" version because this file is a "manual"? The "manual" version, when you launch this file, it will copy the files from your monitored save game to their associated backup (storage) folder. For the "Automatic" version, this file is created in the "Startup" folder, so it starts every time you start your PC.

11-The other two files are log file and database file. You can view various events in the log file, and advanced users can edit the database file (or the script itself!) directly.

Some disclaimers:! -This is a python script so it requires you to install Python, it is made using the default libraries so you don't need to install any additional libraries! -The code is visible and you can edit it if you know Pyt …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
