Added armor class and base armor perks to dwarven automatons, heavily armored Falmer variants, and non-flying Chaurus

Hello everyone

I'm running a fairly primitive modlist with balance and bugfixes, and it's always bothered me that so few creatures in Skyrim have armor classes, making any perks or gear that ignores armor useless.

One of the highest vanilla armor levels found on enemies in Skyrim is Dremora Valkynaz, which is a measly 194!

I don't really care about big creature overhauls like Know Your Enemy - those mods are great, but they change the game too much for my taste.

My goal with my first mod was to add a little variety. The first creature that comes to mind is a dwarf automaton, with most of its body plated in metal. Chaurus was followed by the skeletal exoskeleton and then I decided to add the heavily armored Falmer variant which was added along with Dawnguard.

Conveniently, Falmer and Chaurus can often be found in Dwemer ruins, so it's a good idea to bring some mace perks or crossbows into these areas!

I added the armor perk, allowing these NPCs to upgrade to heavy armor, and gave them some base armor to make it tougher (I only gave the Falmer the heavy armor perk and level, and they use the same armor as vanilla).

These creatures will be more resistant to physical damage under this mod, so if you don't have any armor penetration, may I suggest using magic or enchantments to make them easier to take down? You can also use poison or bleed on Falmer/Chaurus!

Happy adventure!

PS: Some dwarf automatons have a general damage reduction bonus, this mod will remove it.

Chaurus also has a base armor rating with magical effects, this mod removes that as well.

suggestion:

I highly recommend using SkyTweak to balance out the heavy hitting and bleed perks and give you the option to adjust NPC armor multipliers. Here's a good guide to converting it to SSE.

Many thanks to Alanovich Romanov for his help with this, and for his excellent Mod Draugr upgrades and improvements that he was gracious enough to let me borrow from! If you want a more interesting and challenging version of Draugr, I highly recommend his mod!

P.S - Some Dwarven Automatons had generic damage reduction perks that this mod removes.

Chaurus also had a base armor rating Magic Effect that this mod removes as well.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

I highly recommend SkyTweak for balancing critical hit and bleeding perks, as well as giving you the option of adjusting the NPC armor multiplier. There's a g …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
