authentic eyes

Eye texture overhaul with emphasis on detail and realism. Currently covers Humans, Khajiit, Argonians and Elves.

What are authentic eyes?

Depth - Authenticity - Subtlety - Performance

Authentic Eyes replaces the vanilla eye color options for Humans, Elves, Khajiit, and Argonians. My goal has always been to make eyes look striking and realistic in all lighting situations.

I've made my own normal map fix instead of modifying it with another identical mod, and it took a lot of iteration and took weeks to complete - I was hoping to be able to procrastinate and iterate a lot here, and it's paid off for me. It adjusts shadows for realism and has a higher resolution than vanilla, resulting in less blocking. In addition to my new reflections and cubemaps, the eyes should look very deep and bold. Khajiit and Argonians also get their own new normal maps!

I've also included simplified glow maps for males and females. I found that the vanilla glow map caused all kinds of weird shadows on the eyes under different lighting situations, such as eyes being too bright in total darkness.

Finally, hence the name of the mod - I want these eyes to fit the entire world. The shadows may be more "realistic" than vanilla eyes due to improved normal maps, but I hope this mod doesn't feel like a mod. I'm a bit obsessed/obsessed. My skyrim only has to be "real" relative to TES knowledge. Nothing I did seemed to belong. Anyway, that was my goal and I hope anyone who uses this mod thinks I've succeeded.

What files does Authentic Eyes include?

  • Eye replacement textures for Humans, Khajiit, Argonians and Elves.

-My own custom normal map, glow, environment, reflection map and cube map.

-Newly painted eyelashes.

-New normal maps for Khajiit and Argonians.

Diffuse texture is 512 resolution (double vanilla). Other maps have resolutions ranging from 128 to 1024 - I can't call

This mod is "high resolution", but that doesn't mean it's low quality.

What doesn't Authentic Eyes include?

  • Orc eye textures (coming soon)
  • Vampire textures for humans, elves and orcs (coming soon, very complex)

-Eye mesh (maybe coming soon too).

-Especially just textures.

Install

Installed with Vortex/MO - Loads after any other mods that change sight.

compatibility

Not compatible with other mods that replace vanilla eye textures.

If you wish you can use these textures on top of other eye mods that add new eye colors, my mod will show the vanilla eye options and other mods added will still work. For example, you can use Authentic Eyes with the standalone version of The Eyes of Beauty.

One warning - my normal map fits my iris texture - I can't guarantee everything will look correct if you do this (although it should be fine).

P-FAQ (probably FAQ).

Q: 2k/4k/80k super HD?

Answer: No, this mod was designed with performance in mind, I've tried to keep the textures as low resolution as possible without losing quality. My eyes should be fine with the screen architecture, however, you have to make it inaccessible to the camera so that the textures become blurry.

Question: When changing eyes in showracemenu, will the eyes turn black?

A: There is a weird bug where when you replace eyes it makes the eyes black (I think this happens in vanilla too). You can fix this by bringing up showracemenu again. It also seems to fix itself if you change the cell or reload.

Q: The NPCs in your photos look slightly/completely different?

A: For the past two years I've been making a model that changes the appearance of NPCs (I've done about 300 of them). No ETA as of now.

Q: What other mods were used in the screenshots?

A. Total Character Overhaul, Tempered Skin for Men and Women, Hallgarth's Additional (Vanilla) Hair SE

Painting, Northbourne scar, beard, realistic hair color. Thanks for the great mods, fellow modders!

Finally, making this mod took me a long time, and most of the textures were hand-painted with Gimp. Countless late nights over about 2 years, so I really hope someone has …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
