If you use the mod "Vanilla Hair Replacer v2.0" and the "VHR Vanilla facegen" file...you want to do this...get rid of Astrid's burned face! \o/

IMPORTANT NOTE: For this fix I used "Bethesda Archive Extractor" (

  • Back up the meshes\actors\character\FaceGenData\FaceGeom folder from the game installation directory.
  • Use "Bethesda Archive Extractor" to extract "VHR Vanilla.bsa", "VHR Vanilla1.bsa" and "VHR Vanilla2.bsa" from VHR Vanilla Facegen.
  • Copy the resulting loose files to your game folder and click Replace All Contents.
  • Copy the files from this mod and replace everything.
  • Copy the backup and replace everything.
  • Disable and delete "VHR Vanilla.esp", "VHR Vanilla1.esp" and "VHR Vanilla2.esp" and the corresponding .bsa files...
  • Done.

Note: I haven't tested if it works by putting my file working with the plugin activated and the .bsa file in the game folder... so always make a backup and test it that way :)

If you are using mods such as Bijin, Pantorable, Kalilies, etc. then you need to avoid overwriting the facegen files of these mods... which is why backups are important.

This method is for perfectionists... because if you just simply copy the texture of FEMALEHEAD.DDS and change its name to ASTRIDHEAD.DDS, you can get a nice wacky look when you get the burgundy burn... lol

That's if you use "VHR Vanilla Facegen" v2.0 of this mod:

That's it...the files were simply edited in Nifskope...I changed "AstridHead.dds" to "FemaleHead.dds" and saved the changes (I of course avoided actually burning the Astrid NPC...lol)...

I fixed all affected NPCs; if I missed any let me know.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
