  • about

This mod changes how alchemy works in the game. Now, instead of following two ingredients with the same effect, you follow a static recipe (just like in the forge) to create the same potion available in the store.

This mod adds 253 recipes, allowing you to create nearly every individual potion in the game, and adds 18 brand new potions. The more alchemical bonuses you have, the more powerful and varied the powers you can create.

Recipes available in the vanilla game are now more useful, as they allow you to brew specific potions without the corresponding perks. Just put it in your inventory!

The reason I created this mod is that although I loved using alchemy in Morrowind and Oblivion, I never encountered it in Skyrim. Using the same bottles and incredibly generic names, the potions you brew will all look boring. I also like to keep a tidy inventory because I'm kind of weird about that.

I think someone who has never taken part in alchemy might like this mod since the process is a bit simpler. Also, for players familiar with it, this mod may actually be more balanced than vanilla, since stronger potions require rarity and more ingredients. You can also make potions that are normally unavailable, such as the Potion of Fortified Speech, the Potion of Water Walking, the Dawnguard Potion, and a few others I can't remember.

So, for example, in this mod, the Warrior Potion requires an empty vial (which can be crafted at the smelter), a section of hanging moss, and canineroot.

The strongest variant of this potion, the Warrior's Potion, requires an empty vial, part of an eagle feather, two pieces of hanging moss, and two rock warbler eggs.

For modulators like me who want to know exactly what the plugin edits, see the list below.

Added - 253 new crafting recipes and 18 new potions. 1 new miscellaneous item.

EDIT - Two alchemy benches (with and without tables), the 18 existing potion recipes you purchase from vendors, descriptions of the following perks; Alchemy 1-5, Benefactor, Poison, Physician, Experimenter 1-3 and Purity.

This mod doesn't add any scripts, so it should be safe when saving in between.

This mod will not edit any existing potions or ingredients.

-question

Tasting ingredients is no longer required, and the effects listed are a guide to which potion they may end up being used for. I could have had a basic blank effect on them, but that would have required editing all the ingredients, which might have caused some incompatibilities.

Any outstanding alchemical or similarly enchanted item will simply be a stylish headpiece. Likewise, I don't want to remove the empowered alchemical enchantment to avoid incompatibility.

-Compatibility patch

See stickiness in comments. Thanks.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
