Age of Mythology - TrueStorms Compatibility Patch
Another compatibility patch I made in the pursuit of making True Storms compatible with as many weather simulations as possible, because I absolutely love it. Age of Mythology has a very unique aesthetic and I had a lot of fun blending the two together. I hope you'll like the results!
feature
- Fully incorporated all audio and effects from real storms and mythological times into all stormy and rainy weather, including 30+ thunder sounds, and all ambient and internal rain sounds. I made sure to distribute the thunder evenly in all weathers to get maximum variation.
- Reassigned some of the unique weather from real storms to Myth's regional data, which makes sense, being particularly careful not to add weather that seems out of place in Myth's weather system.
- Included regional data for Solstheim, including all Ash Storm variations from the Age of Mythology and real storms, and provides support for Wet & Cold's completely revamped Solstheim weather system.
- Visual preference for both versions. Both versions include all of the above features, they simply change the "aesthetics" of stormy weather by adjusting things like ambient lighting, shading, fog settings, etc. None of the main features of Sessical Age have been changed.
Here's an overview of both versions:
-Grey-
This version retains nearly all of the original stormy aesthetic of the Mythic Age, meaning it retains all of the "hazy" nature of the Mythic Storms, plus the True Storms rain/snow effects and audio. If you're looking for a version with just the effects and audio of a real storm without changing too much from the Mythic Age, then this is the version for you.
-dim-
This is my personal take on the dark, stormy fusion of the two mode aesthetics, as I personally like my stormy weather to be as dark and ominous as possible. I was very selective about which settings I chose to adjust to make sure the transitions between Mythical's other weather didn't look too jarring. If you're looking for a version that maintains more of the True Storms aesthetic, this is the version for you.
The video below compares the two versions to help you decide on your preference. I'm using Lighting Overhaul (ELFX) and ENB (SkyrimSE Re-Engaged) for the videos and screenshots, so keep in mind that your version may differ based on your own ENB and mod setup. Unfortunately the audio isn't that great, as I don't have the best editing software, so it's a bit hard to hear the thunder and rain added by True Storms in the patched version. But I guarantee they are in the game :)
Install and load orders
The patch requires the Age of Myth and True Storms to be loaded, and they should be loaded in the load order:
Myth Ages.esp
TrueStormsSE.esp
Mythical_TS_Patch_Overcast.esp
Either
Mythical_TS_Patch_Dusky.esp
If you want to update to a newer version, just uninstall the old version and install the newer version. This is completely safe in the mid-game.
Make sure you only choose one of the four versions offered. The optional Water's Edge Fix versions are the same as the original master, they just merge LoD7995's fix directly for those users who are still on the blocky Water's Edge. If you use one of these versions, you no longer need to load his Water's Edge Fix patch.
compatibility
This patch basically combines the Age of Mythology and Real Storms into a single weather model, so it won't be compatible with any mods that change areas or weather records. Some good examples are:
- All other weather modules.
-Darker Nights - The official patch is now available as a Darker Nights download option, covering both versions. Thank you a ton Unforgivable :)
-Water's Edge Fix - Two extra versions are included as optional files, identical to the two main versions, only they also directly include …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
