About this mod Machine translation
Mixed combat adjustments and a "lossless" defeat system. The tweaks should make combat more challenging and punishing without being outrageous.
Combat Aftermath focuses on making small changes to make combat more engaging, challenging, and punishing, all without triggering combat rage. These include changing how damage scales with the game's difficulty settings, changing potion strength and duration based on scenarios, and changing the extent of damage based on health and stamina percentages.
It also adds a failure system ala Death Alternative, but with no losses at all. Any items lost through failure can be recovered later, so you can use Daedric artifacts without worry.
I would also recommend mods like Mortal Enemies, and dodge mods like TK Dodge to compliment this mod.
This mod can be installed at any time, but is best done outside of combat.
If you are not under a defeat or weakening effect, and are not wearing any of the bandages added by this mod, you can uninstall it.
Difficulty adjustment
Difficulty game rules have been changed to make it more realistic, i.e. player and enemy will deal roughly the same amount of damage. Increasing difficulty causes players and enemies to deal more damage, and vice versa. The difficulty slider now indicates the number of mistakes you can make before losing. On Novice difficulty, you'll likely need to use your warhammer to swing at you or enemies a few times, while at Mastery and higher you can err on the side of battle axe-wielding bandit commanders.
Difficulty: Player Dmg, Enemy Dmg
Novice: 0.6, 0.50
Apprentice: 0.8, 0.75
Expert: 1.0,1.00
Expert: 1.4,1.50
Master: 1.8,2.00
Legend: 2.2,3.00
Combat adjustments
They are small gameplay combat adjustments that make combat more engaging. These are preparation, survival and exhaustion.
These can be disabled and enabled at will in MCM.
Depending on the situation, preparation changes how powerful potions and self-cast spells are.
During combat, the duration and magnitude of beneficial effects are halved. Crouching and staying still negates this.
Outside of combat, the duration of these effects is increased:
-Staying Still: Duration x2
-Stand still and crouch: duration x5
- Still and Sitting: Duration x10
So, you have to decide which potions to use before entering combat because they will be worthless while you are in combat. It also partially prevents restoration spells from making the player nearly invulnerable.
Survival changes the damage you take based on your health percentage. The more damage you take, the less damage you take, allowing you to survive long fights and tense fights and reducing the chance of a one-shot. It also mitigates the impact of Prep and Defeat systems.
Fatigue only changes the amount of damage done by physical weapons based on your stamina percentage. The lower your stamina is, the less damage you do.
Battle lost
Failure is the most complex part of this mod, but is still fairly simple. With Combat Defeat enabled, when your health reaches 0, you won't die, but will start bleeding. When you start to bleed, you only have one chance to pull and get up and continue fighting in a weakened state, or surrender and hope your allies carry you to a safe place.
Rally will fully restore your health, but will apply weakened debuffs. The debuff will last for 12 hours after being knocked down once, and will make your weapons, spells, and armor less effective by 10%. Being knocked down multiple times increases the duration and strength of the debuff, eventually halving its effectiveness. The chance of a successful bounce depends entirely on your level, solo players above level 50 are guaranteed to bounce back, and players with minions above level 25 are guaranteed to bounce back. Werewolves, vampire lords, and other non-human transformations are guaranteed to rebound.
Surrendering, or failing to bounce back and darken, will cause something to happen, depending on the status of your allies. If you don't have any follower …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
