Simple extensions to Dawnstar focused on compatibility and performance.
A simple extension to Dawnstar Town to enhance immersion while still maintaining performance/compatibility.
I've always liked the idea of Dawnstar. A port city that is not only the third largest port in Skyrim, but also a fixed capital, should be a little bigger than sailors can't even trade with. So I thought of this.
I'm a big fan of Holidays mods, but most Dawnstar mods are incompatible. Dawnstar was severely lacking, so I decided to create some easy way to add some solid dressing without being incompatible. This mod adds two traders, some sailors (in keeping with the Dawnstar Defender faction, so don't try anything funny), two ships with some clutter, and a camp for each crew member.
Most of the changes were to the two small islands at the northern end of Dawnstar, however, I did add a bridge leading there. It should be fully managed, however, I'm still working on the skills, so if you notice your followers acting funny on the island, this is why.
There are two versions of this mod:
Vanilla: Sailor Merchant has merchandise from the base game and DLC plus the rare Curios mini-DLC. The rare curio is not required; the mod will work fine without it, but it can be supported.
Modifications: This version includes support for Skyrim Bruma, as well as everything from the vanilla version onwards. I almost added tamtriel compatible items but I found that the shop/ship was already close so it wasn't necessary. Bruma is a mandatory requirement for this version.
Compatibility: The sole purpose of this mod is to be compatible with other Dawnstar mods. That said, I'm only one person, so I can't speak to every mod on the association. The only compatibility issue is with Tamriel's merchandise. That's not a compatibility issue, but a "these docks look interesting" issue. They don't clip or anything, but they do look kind of funny next to each other. I personally like it because it gives the impression that those docks are temporary and are picked up when the boat leaves.

I'm a big fan of the Holidays mod but most Dawnstar mods are incompatible. Dawnstar is severely lacking, so I decided to create something simple to add a bit of set dressing without being incompatible. There are two versions of this mod:
Vanilla: the sailor merchants have items from across the base game and DLCs PLUS the rare curios mini-DLC. Rare curios isn't required; the mod will work fine without it, but support is baked in.
Modded: this version includes support for beyond Skyrim Bruma, as well as everything from the vanilla version. I almost added a wares of tamriel compatibility, but I figured that that store/boat is really close already so it's not necessary. Bruma is a hard requirement for this version.
Compatability: the sole purpose of this mod was compatibility with other Dawnstar mods. That said, I'm just one person so I can't account for every mod. The only compatibility issue is with wares of Tamriel. And that's not a compatibility issue so much as it is a "these docks look funny" issue. Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
