About this mod Machine translation

Skyrim's third-person camera is stiff and completely devoid of aesthetics. 3PCO aims to rectify this problem by adding the smooth camera following feature found in many modern AAA third-person games, including Dark Souls and Nier Automata. Using 3PCO, your player will be able to dynamically move to the side of the screen relative to the camera.

What this mod does:

The Third Person Camera Overhaul (3PCO) aims to fix vanilla Skyrim's solid, stationary vanity camera. In vanilla, the camera is locked in a fixed position above the character. This makes camera movement lackluster and combat action look static. 3PCO removes this anchor point and allows the camera to follow the player, allowing for a more aesthetically pleasing view, especially during combat. When holstered, the effect is subtle, but better than vanilla. When the weapon is unsheathed, the effect is more pronounced and action-oriented.

Read before updating to v2.0:

Before updating, make sure your crosshairs are visible. The name of the plugin has been changed because I rewrote the mod from scratch, so the game will warn you. This shouldn't be a problem.

How 3PCO works:

In modern AAA games, the camera is placed relative to world coordinates. This allows the camera to follow the player's world coordinates. However, in Skyrim, the camera is placed relative to the player. This makes smooth camera following effects more difficult as it dynamically changes its own position based on the player's speed and position. Typically this requires using a lot of math that may not be possible with Skyrim's camera scripts. Get around that math by specifying where the camera wants to go based on whether the player is moving left or right. If the player moves to the right, command the camera to pan left at the specified speed. This can artificially reproduce smooth camera following effects.

Install:

First, install SKYUI:

Then just use your favorite mod manager to install 3PCO, or copy the data folder into the Skyrim game's directory.

NOTE: When updating from an older version or a customizable camera, please make a clean save without the camera mod installed. Run the save script cleaner and then install the latest version of this mod.

I also highly recommend using Himika's Lock-On mod as well:

To further enhance your action combat gameplay, check out tkDodge, Mortal Enemies, and Wildcat + Deadly Combat

uninstall:

Before uninstalling, make sure to set the default camera settings, enable all crosshairs, and use the options in the MCM menu to uninstall before removing the mod from the list. If you want to update, please uninstall the mod first, then save it and then install the updated version.

compatibility:

Any mods that affect the third-person camera will not be compatible with this. This includes customizable cameras.

Compatible with archery gameplay. Uncheck AGO's camera and reticle settings and use 3PCO instead. They do the same thing.

Visible favorites may be incompatible. (I use it very well)

First person cameras are not affected. This means it's compatible with enhanced cameras and The Joy of Perspective.

Some users have difficulty using XPMSE with POV switching (which does not affect camera movement). Skeleton swapping can sometimes interfere with cam alignment. If you encounter problems, you can still use the framework, but the XPMSE plugin must be disabled. XPMS is a viable alternative.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
