The "Marvel Spider-Man Mod Maker" allows you to extract and replace any asset in the game's "asset_archive" folder. It is a basic tool for making and installing mods, with a convenient mod file system where users can create and share their mods, as well as install them.
Install:
- Extract the tool to any folder.
- Use "File" -> "Select the folder where the Asset files are located..." and select the "asset_archives" folder in the game directory. The tool saves the location for later use.
- If this is your first time using the tool, it should give you a warning asking you to convert the Asset file type.
- You need to do this to make the game compatible with modding. Use Tools -> Convert Asset Archives, this may take 15-20 minutes (and will change the game size to 100G), but only needs to be converted once.
- Now you can browse all Asset file resources and extract or replace any game asset you want.
- Some files are still unnamed and need to be hashed in the "AssetHashes.txt" folder before they can be known
Extract/replace assets:
- You can right-click on an asset in the side file view and use Extract or Replace. When you extract the file, it will be an unzipped game file, be it models, textures, actors, etc.
- Other tools or programs can then modify these files, or you can hex-edit them manually if you have the knowledge.
- Then you re-import/replace the modified assets. You can also swap it with another asset with the same "asset type", such as "hero_spiderman_body.model" and "amb_rat.model" and Spider-Man will become Spider-Man!
- In future updates, the tool will be able to handle more assets within the tool itself.
Create/install module:
- Whenever you replace an asset with another, it will be added to the queue of modified files in "Save/Create Mod".
- Until you create that mod file ".smpcmod" and use "Install Mod" it does not replace it in the file itself.
- You can add module thumbnails and change data such as title, author, description, etc.
- It is recommended to create an "Install" mod file containing modified files and an "Uninstall" mod file containing backup files.
SMPC module:
These are the main files you will share when creating/installing your mod.
tool
The tool also features various smaller tools, such as the String To Hash Generator, which hashes a string input into the game's hash. Good for guessing more file names. Generating a layout CSV is also included so advanced users can see asset information more clearly.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
