You Puny Weakling

If you hate battle mages, replace some of the generic enemy magic users with melee warriors to make combat more interesting.

Why?

Unleashing the arcane is an art that should only be possessed by the most powerful, requiring years of study. None of the other black-robed idiots in Skyrim should be using it.

I've always felt that magic was treated too much as a commodity in Skyrim, rather than as something rare, special, and magical. On top of that, I found combat with magic users to be quite frustrating, especially those of the Ice Mage variety. Therefore, I decided to create this mod.

What?

This mod makes changes to certain class characters that use magic.

Warlock:

The standard warlock is replaced by the mage's Thrall (basically a bandit).

The boss warlock is still a mage. Now, they can only use spells from their respective schools (fire, ice, storm, spell, incantation (non-spell)).

Ideally this would result in a dungeon with multiple Thralls and a boss or two.

bandit:

Magic users are replaced by melee bandits.

Sworn in:

Magic users have been replaced with melee curses.

Barbarians are unaffected.

Hagravens are unaffected.

other:

I didn't change the other factions such as the Falmar mages or the Imperial soldier wizards. They may be added later.

I haven't included anything that relies on DLC.

How about it?

I changed templates or created new templates for those horizontal characters mentioned above. Therefore, this mod will have the same impact on custom/DLC dungeons or world spaces using vanilla level characters. Characters added via mods/DLC are not affected unless they depend on the vanilla template I changed.

Have a question?

Game designers don't always use designated boss characters. This means that you will encounter the mage's Thrall without the mage. This situation is especially likely to happen in the wild, but some warlock dungeons also have no bosses. To fix this, you would need to mess with those cells directly, which I'm not going to do.

Mage Thralls have bandit gear, but they still use the race and voice type of a warlock, making them different from regular bandits. This means they say things like "I am the Master of the Arcane." No spell though.
