whiterun fortress
Overview
Whiterun Keep was one of many hidden fortresses built by a secret organization within the Empire to resume preparations for the war against Telmore. It's tucked under the mountains between Whiterun and Riverwood, just steps away from Whiterun. When you start the game, a letter is written authorizing you to command the fortress. How you learn about this letter is up to the player's imagination. This letter will tell you the location of the fortress, where you can get the key from the previous commander and where to find him.
There are no quest markers. You just need to follow the written prompts to search for items and locations. If you release the authorization before reading it, you will not be able to access the stronghold. This is intended as a working base rather than a family home but is convenient for both Whiterun and Lakeview Manor if you wish to have a family. The layout is simple and logical, eliminating the need for lengthy notes. There's nothing outdated like a hot tub or shower. While I hope the initial mission is to make the key simple enough that you can access it with lower permissions, most projects will require some cost. Teleporting stones requires considerable magic and/or skill changes and risks, and most players will probably not be able to obtain one or more of them in any one playthrough.
I hope you enjoy this mod and feedback is welcome.
main fortress
The main fortress has two physical entrances on either side of the mountain. These entrances can all be used as basic player houses until you enter the fortress, as they all have sheets, cooking pots, and player chests in them. To enter the fortress itself, a key is required. The northern entrance is within walking distance of Whiterun, but far enough away that fast travel won't trigger a vampire attack. The road is close to a major road used by frequent traders. It's also close to dragon spawn locations and random encounter locations. You never know who you might meet near your front door. The southern entrance is near Riverwood, and there is a smelter for basic camping supplies.
The main fortress is centered around a public eating and leisure area. To the north is the commander's private residence, consisting of a bedroom and a treasure room. To the east of the common area are two large rooms, an armory with lots of storage and mannequins, and a mage study room, which houses a library area, an alchemist/naturalist display area, an enchantment area, and a religious studies and temple display area for mages. Magical items. To the east is the work area for employees. There is a small barracks, private quarters for the permanent staff (mages, guards and stewards), kitchen, kitchen and workshop for the maintenance of weapons and armor. To the south of the studio is an escape route that passes through the other side of the mountain. There are also four obelisks in the fortress that are activated by the appropriate spells, taking you to different locations. You'll find your first magic book in the fortress. Others will need to be acquired. One caveat is that the wizards who crafted the obelisks were known for creating enchantment devices that were both powerful and unreliable. These obelisks require a lot of magic and aren't completely safe, especially for non-magics.
hidden crater
The green obelisk's spellbook is located in the keep. It takes you to a secluded garden in the heart of a hidden, grass-covered crater. It's just a pleasant place to relax, collect plants and go hunting. Leave the cemetery at night.
Archmage's room
The Blue Obelisk's Spellbook is only available if you follow the Mage's Guild questline. It takes you to the Archmage's chamber.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
