Overview

This mod fixes mismatched textures being displayed on the upper and lower parts of the Western Watchtower between Whiterun and Fort Greymoor. This mismatch is caused by the vanilla game using meshes that show the textures of the imperial fortresses "ice" on the tops of the towers, while the lower parts of the fortresses use meshes that show the textures of the standard "ice-less" versions of these imperial fortresses.

This mod only uses modified original assets and does not include any custom textures created by other authors. Skyland - Imperial Fortress and Dungeon textures are used in several screenshots in the Images section to illustrate the fixes provided by this mod, but the Skyland assets are not included here. This mod will work with any and all textures you choose to use for your in-game Imperial Fortresses.

The texture fixes implemented by this mod are very specific and only apply to Western Watch, so you don't have to worry about causing texture mismatches for any other forts in the game if they don't already exist.

Western Watchtower texture mismatch fixed without using any scripts. It has no errors and has been cleaned using TES5Edit.

Use this mod in custom textures

The extent to which you notice mismatched textures in Western Overwatch will depend on the textures you're using in the game. In vanilla Skyrim, the texture inconsistency is very slight, but still noticeable if you look closely. With custom texture modules, the difference can range from non-existent to very noticeable. Regarding the following mods:

Skyland - Imperial Fortress and Dungeon Textures: There is a big difference between the standard and ice versions of the Imperial Fortress textures and this mod fixes that.

NobleSkyrimMod HD-2K-Fortress: Noble Skyrim uses the same textures for both Imperial Fortress variants, so enabling this mod will make no visual difference.

Langley Texture Studio - Dungeon: The ice and non-ice versions of the decals applied to the fortress walls are slightly different. Varies from person to person.

aMidianBorn Imperial Fortress: Slight but noticeable difference in tone, which can be remedied by enabling this fix.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
